The Soviet Union was evil. However, to say the level of evil was completely new is to ignore human history. Human history is full of human evil deeds as bad or worse than that of the Soviet Union.

Consider the Ghengis Khan and the Mongol invaders. Consider even the Romans. Those are not as bad as most human tribes before written history.

Humans are dangerous and deadly, with a predilection to murder rape and torture. They must be tamed to make a civilization, and Christianity has been the best at taming the human.
