This is an unusual family for this kind of story, since there does seem to be a man involved. Gosh, the father stuck around to help raise the kids. Chances are, he’s working, but just not earning very much.
But yeah. The last time I read a statistic on it, around 70 percent of immigrants are on public assistance. (I read it on the internet, so it must be true.) This includes a great many who are working. Part of their problem is that open borders has flooded the country with low skill people who depress wages on the lower rungs of the ladder.
The liberal response is to open the borders, invite millions more to come each year, and relentlessly increase taxes to pay for endlessly growing welfare budgets.
Alternatively, we could control the borders. Trump has made a good start, but I don’t see that the left has the slightest interest in changing on the issue.

I would really like to see family “assistance” limited to 5 years. If you require more time than that, you need to be sterilized. I would also consider removing all children to foster care. It’s a generational cycle and it will continue as long as we have children growing up with welfare as the family “career”.
Welfare was (supposedly) supposed to be a temporary safety net. Not a multi-generational hammock. I’ve known some people who are so good at scamming the system, that if they’d put even a smidgen of the same effort into working, they’d be far better off, but they have the attitude that they’re entitled to it and shouldn’t have to work for it. Those folks should be cut off completely.

First of all....the kids are getting fed in schools. The kids should collect the throw away food in the cafeteria for mom..
