National Security Advisor Mike Waltz appears on CNN to outline how the U.S. team no longer sees Volodymyr Zelenskyy as a man who can lead his nation to a place of peace.
Waltz notes that at a certain point there are going to be negotiations and discussions about Ukraine territory that Zelenskyy is going to need to face with pragmatic honesty. However, at the current state of conflict Zelenskyy is intransigent toward any ceasefire agreement that does not include U.S. troops on the ground as a “security guarantee.” WATCH:
.
The media is full to the brim with stories about what the EU wants for a ceasefire and what Zelensky wants for a ceasefire.
How did it get this bizarre? Why to they think any of this matters? Russia has explicitly said no NATO troops, and if a ceasefire is what the EU says is required for NATO troops, then why do they presume Russia will want a ceasefire. It would be the explicitly wrong thing to do, given their condition of no NATO troops.
As for the concept of peacekeepers, a peacekeeper is an offensive soldier awaiting a phone call to give attack orders. So that means nothing.
The media is probably doing this to conceal their awareness that the budget process has no money for Ukraine. And with the debt ceiling part of the budget, once it passes there will be no mechanism at all for Ukraine money that Trump won’t veto.
This is maybe not a surprise. A total Russian victory would be presented by the media as defeat.
Of course NATO peacekeepers are a no-go for a peace deal.
Couldn’t Europe pay some African nations to be peacekeepers?
They have no dog in the hunt and could use the money.
I posted this on another thread, but consider:
Everybody is glossing over the big question - Do the Russians want a cease fire? I don’t think they do. And beyond motivation, why would they accept stopping at the current line of contact? I think they will insist on a withdrawal to the borders of the disputed oblasts, which is a deal breaker for Ukraine ... today.
“NSA Mike Waltz Says Zelenskyy is Going to Need to Make Territorial Concessions”
He already has. He’s going to make more every day he stalls.
No, Putin does not want a cease-fire with no progress made on anything else. He will see that as giving Ukraine a chance to rest and prepare more fortifications. Keeping the pressure on in multiple areas at once has been the strategy and it is paying more benefits now than ever which is why Z is ready to “negotiate”.
