He’s been there since 2015. He’s had his time.

Shouldn’t have been there in the first place and was only there because of Pierre

Chamberlain was not replaced in 1939, and he did not lose a confidence vote in May of 1940. He resigned to allow a National government to be formed since Labour and the Liberals would not serve under him.

If the Liberals lose a confidence vote, then the Prime Minister will have to advise the Governor General to dissolve Parliament and call an election.

Thanks for the information.

Since the Liberal Party still has a majority in the Commons, does the Governor General not have the option of replacing the PM with another Liberal who is willing to try to form a government?

My recollection is different. I’ll look it up. I think he got an intraparty informal “no confidence” from his fellow Tories, at which point he opted to resign, but he was on the war cabinet.

The Liberals do not have a majority, they have a plurality. They have been forming minority governments with either formal or informal support from the New Democratic Party (NDP).

The Governor General is required to appoint as Prime Minister the person who can command the support of a majority of the House of Commons. As of today, that is the Leader of the Liberal Party, Justin Trudeau.

The GG cannot just replace Trudeau with another Liberal, because that person would not automatically command the support of Parliament. To replace Trudeau, one of the following must happen.

Trudeau quits. Meaning he resigns as Leader of the Liberals. If that happens he can then stay on as interim Leader until the Liberals elect a new Leader, who would then be appointed as Prime Minister. He could just quit everything, but the Liberals would have to scramble to find an interim Leader and then have a leadership election. That would be suicidal for the party.

No confidence vote. If the Government loses the confidence of the Commons, the GG can ask another person to form a Government OR the PM can advise the GG to dissolve Parliament and call an election. No other party has the votes in this Parliament to form a Government, so an election would be a certainty.

Trudeau is done, no doubt, but the NDP do not want an election yet, they will stall until spring and we’ll have an election as early as April or as late as June.

Winter elections are not very popular for obvious reasons.

Liberals will probably force Trudeau to resign early in January and will call a leadership convention. That alone will not automatically cause an election, an interim leader will be appointed and as long as the NDP vote with the Liberals they can stay in power.

One unrelated point, if anyone knows a Trump advisor, please, tell the man to keep silent on these matters, the one card the Liberals still hold is widespread dislike of Trump in Canada and he is doing the cause (of changing government to Conservative) no good — it isn’t yet a big issue but I’ve seen this movie before, a weak Liberal Party always goes to this option to rally the troops and Trump’s favorable rating in Canada was low even before the tariff announcement.

Just let the Liberals self destruct.

Jagmeet 'Jughead' Singh, leader of the socialist/communist NDP, has also refused to vote against the Castreau Lieberals in ALL confidence votes that have been brought forth. After Castreau's latest fark up, Jughead continually beats about Castreau MUST resign, yet, when asked about voting against Castreau, he says, "All things are on the table."

In an interview yesterday with a high up NDPer, he stated that they won't be voting 'no-confidence' until the end of February or early March 2025. Why so long a wait, while FURTHER destroys Canaduh? No reason given.

Could it be that 'Jughead' Singh's $ multi-million pension is not vested until

FEBRUARY 25, 2025

?

Castreau is driven by ideology and psychology (a sociopath, bordering on psychpathy), whereas 'Jughead ' is driven by PURE GREED! NEITHER GaS about all the problems, injuries and losses that THEY mete on Canadian citizens. A POX ON BOTH THEIR HOUSES!

yes, although, it seemed to have popular support as the chosen Prime Minister’s party won the election. Things were collapsing and getting out of hand.

I can see it happening again if a government descends into total chaos and public opinion was seen as backing such an unusual move (in modern times) for the monarch to directly order the sacking of the government in such a chaotic event. After all, they would call for new elections rather than taking the power back for the Crown like in the old days (last done by Charles II) so it could not be seen as a dictatorial move.
