UFOs are supposed to be the stuff of conspiracy theories and fringe documentaries. And yet many high-ranking government officials believe some of the most explosive claims about UFOs to be true. How would this potential reality affect the conservative worldview?
On December 13, 2023 Majority Leader Chuck Schumer took to the Senate floor to deliver remarks which can only be described as incredible. He was speaking about his amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). Remarkably, the subject of this amendment was not Ukraine or China, nor Russia or Iran, but rather UAP (Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena, or what used to be called UFOs). Schumer lamented that
The United States government has gathered a great deal of information about UAPs over many decades but has refused to share it with the American people. That is wrong and additionally breeds mistrust. We have also been notified by multiple credible sources that information on UAPs has also been withheld from Congress, which, if true, is a violation of laws requiring full notification to the legislative branch.
These claims—that the executive branch of the government has gathered a “great deal of information” about UAP over “decades” but has refused to share it with the public and has even violated the law by withholding information from congress—are quite simply extraordinary.

They should ignore it.
UFOs are an alternative religion where extraterrestrial aliens will save us or maybe eat us. While I was frightened of it in my youth I’ve learned to ignore it for the most part since.
Refusing to acknowledge the rightness or wrongness of something is irresponsible.
Laugh at it or ignore it.

I read UFO books when I was young.
Do UFO's exist?
Of course. People see all sorts of things in the sky they can not identify.
Are they, aliens, government experiments, swamp gas, demons, weird clouds or hoaxes?
Does it matter?
Why do we need any sort of policy or position at all?

Anyone smart enough to come here from another world is smart enough to keep at arm’s length from us. So I’m not losing any sleep over it.

Mostly by ignoring it.
Whatever causes these phenomena has been around for thousands of years and there is nothing human beings can do about any of it.
UFOs today only get brought out to distract the general population from whatever the government is doing to people.
ET could land in front of the Washington Monument with thousands of witnesses and the big interest wouldn’t last much longer than the week’s news cycle. Then it would be back to Israel, Taylor Swift and the Kelce brothers.
How is this a matter of ‘right’ or ‘wrong’?
It isn’t a moral issue, after all.
There is massive evidence that some people have seen things, and some of them have decided thoughts about what they’ve seen. Others who haven’t seen anything have been convinced by the recounted experiences of others. And some people don’t know WHAT the hell to think about it all.
It isn’t even a matter of ‘true’ or ‘false’. It’s all unknown and subjective.
By trying to figure out how DARPA and the NRO got those little silver balls to fly around.
Conservative/Republican leaders should leave the topic alone. Don’t comment one way or the other. There’s nothing to be gained by stating a position.
Democrat: We must investigate UFOs!
Republican: Here’s an idea. Let’s balance the budget first.
