Yup! Since I was a kid, it thought America would always be safe and and that the FBI would always protect America and Americans. And then the Kenyan boy came along and changed all that. Now, they are out to get us.

People here the term ‘Vigilante’ and they blanche. Now forgotten is that the San Francisco Vigilantes, founded in 1856 to eliminate crime so rampant that no one was safe, hung about 30 miscreants from a local building.The criminals found safer pickings at a new gold field in Australia and elsewhere. The city was so safe the Vigilantes disbanded in 1858. They had been, and were, citizens first and a system of law and order second.

The police and courts have been failing for quite some time now. Police are turning into thugs, and courts are letting people go.
I’ve lived in Communist countries. In those places, police, detective and courts serve the POLITICS of the regime.
Although in these places common pick-pockets and shoplifters (to the extent they existed) would be caught and tried - when you remove the basis of seeking justice, equality under the law, and protecting private property, one finds the motivations (and thus the outcomes) of police and courts to be very different - and often, its best to avoid using them if at all possible.
Sadly, I see the same developing in the USA as well.
It started decades ago. Just watch an episode of the original Hawaii 5-0, Kojak, Hunter, etc. to see how infected the show is with outright lies about law and individual rights. The later shows such as Hill Street Blues, NYPD Blue, Law and Order, CSI, NCIS, Bluebloods, Criminal Minds, Chicago P.D., etc are outright Leftist propaganda.
The one show that most accurately portrayed the role of police in modern society is 'Reno 911'.

That would perhaps work in a more efficient manor if it were applied to prosecutors and judges first....maybe.
Love it, I would rather have a Sheriff accountable to voters, than a Mayor appointed, or Governor appointed Chief. A political army without doubt. Other than that, “Let’s Roll” works for me.

I have investigated a whole bunches
of crimes through the years. I have never experienced what the author claims were the outcomes of ‘so many bad decisions’.
