You seem, based on your comments, to prefer comfort to genetic survival.
In North Korea, if one member of our family displeases the government, the whole family suffers. Doesn’t bode well for “genetic survival”.
What kind of nonsense is that? As long as you have a few million people, your “genetic survival” will do just fine unless you get yourself very thoroughly nuked.
BTW, genetic survival does NOT mean “no change” and not even “no hybridization”. Dinosaurs live on — as birds.
(My Dad did a lot of work in genetics, BTW.)
I’d also add that humans’ version of “success” is somewhat different than animals. Depending on the animal. Cats are definitely into comfort. ;-)
