The AW ban was a joke. It banned rifles by name and certain items on them.
So the makers changed the names,
removed the flash suppressor,
removed the bayonet lug (how many bayonet deaths since 1900?),
made the collapsible stock solid as they originally were, and replaced the 30 rd magazine with a ten round one.
And those same bowdlerized rifles were still for sale all through the ban.
Yep and you could still buy standard capacity, 30 round AK mags that were made before the ban, for $10.
