Eleanor of Aquitaine died on the 1st of April 1204, 819 years ago.
She was said to be the most beautiful woman in Europe.
(Perhaps Melania Trump is hotter.)
I call Her a Woman For Freedom because of her wonderful effort in what she did to get her reproductive rights.
(NB I define reproductive rights as the right to reproduce not the twisted modern perversion of that phrase where reproductive rights are considered the right to abortion i.e. the right not to reproduce.)
Fellow Freepers, based on the image, which you can see by clicking the following link, I rate babelicious Queen Eleanor an 11 out of 10
Who agrees?

I looked up her competition.
Perhaps I was too hasty with a verdict of guilt?

Probably much nicer after a few tankards of mead.

Interestingly, there are no true portraits of Eleanor of Aquitaine, just stylized pictures. A new book out about Eleanor, and the Plantagenets by a Ms. Karen Knab is a good read, not at all stiff and turgid like so many history texts.

I define a woman’s reproductive “rights” as the initial act of intercourse. She,he, it can say no then and only then. Keeping legs closed is a right of choice. Not taking bith control is a foolish freewill choice. Rape? I won’t pass judgement but seldom are abortions used for cases of rape. Why do these women risk murder? Over and over and over???

“Why do these women risk murder?”
Because to them it isn’t murder; it’s birth control. Creepy and Satanic.

Hmmmmm, I cannot say her annulment was valid....
???
No consummation, no marriage. Same as with Catherine of Aragon’s attempted union with Henry’s brother.

I don’t know if she was beautiful, but I do know she had vast tracts of land.

Probably much nicer after a few tankards of mead. "Mead spectacles."
Got ya!

You’ve got to feel sorry for Henry. Nevertheless, he succeeded in his rule despite Eleanor, his madcap son Richard, devious son John, plotting priests, demanding Crusaders, unhappy land barons, and London merchants ranged against him.

Eleanor’s great misfortune is that if she had only waited 817 years to be born she could have had ME!

I appreciate you getting back to me but I don’t find that on Amazon or by searching with Bing.
Any suggestion as to a link when you have the time would be appreciated.

Mine too. Read a biography of her a while back by Alison Weir. Very well researched. She was a very interesting woman. Married twice, having to get special dispensations from Rome because of the laws of sanguinity. The power struggles between the sons she had with Henry II, probably gave her many headaches and heartaches, but she remained resolute, even during the time her husband locked her away.
