Good news...the Walmart near my office has supplies behind glass, the Walmart near our house (upper middle class) is much better. If the stores are losing money because of shrinkage, it is the people fault.There are multiple Walmarts as well as many other retailers in my county, Westmoreland County, PA and since the DAs all prosecute shop lifters, to the fullest extent of the law, the "shrinkage" from the public thieves is relatively low.
Thieves will always chance stealing, but most will avoid areas where the punishment is more severe.
A lawyer that I know said that the shrinkage rate is almost twice as high in the neighboring county of Allegheny {the county of Pittsburgh}.
We all know why; couple inner city life with lax prosecution and you get what you voter for.
