The children-leaders of the West who sit at the diplomatic kiddie table like to toss that tired old "regime change" line around a lot.

It looks to me like they're going to be hoist by their own petard.

Russian oil exports continue to fall - Bloomberg
News Censor.NET World
14.02.23
https://censor.net/en/n3399645

According to Bloomberg, Russia’s oil exports fell to a six-week low even before the announced 500,000 barrels per day production cut next month.

This is stated by Censor.NЕТ withr reference to ZN.ua.

Total Russian oil flows fell by 562 thousand barrels per day, or 16%, in the seven days to February 10, even as exports from Baltic ports increased. Combined shipments from the Arctic and Pacific Ocean fell by half a million barrels daily, and shipments from the Black Sea also dropped.

Moscow is trying to present the production cuts announced on Friday by Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak as a response to the Group of Seven’s cap on the price of Russian oil. However, as the newspaper notes, this may reflect the difficulties Russia faces in maintaining crude oil supplies to its four remaining customers - China, India, Turkey and Bulgaria.

Revenues to the Kremlin’s military coffers from oil export duties have fallen sharply since the beginning of the year. Concerned about the drop in revenues, the Russian government has proposed to switch from using Urals prices reported by the Argus to setting the tax base price as a discount to the Brent price. It is expected to be $34 per barrel in April, and to drop to $25 per barrel by July.

The EU’s ban on Russian oil imports has led to a significant increase in the duration of sea transportation: it now takes an average of 31 days to reach India from Baltic ports, while it takes only seven days from the same terminals to Rotterdam and about half that to Poland. This puts additional pressure on ships whose owners are willing to carry Russian cargo. HA is increasingly relying on its own vessels and the so-called “shadow fleet.”

2- Russia Loses 5,000 Soldiers as Elite Brigade Suffers High Deaths: Ukraine
By Anna Skinner
2/13/23 at 12:11 PM EST
https://www.newsweek.com/russia-loses-5000-soldiers-elite-brigade-suffers-high-deaths-ukraine-1780878

Ukraine eliminated more than 5,000 Russian soldiers after killing them, wounding them or taking them prisoner amid a Russian probe into Ukrainian defense capabilities in Vuhledar, according to one Ukrainian official.

This comes after a strong Ukrainian counteroffensive effort in the fall that led to troops regaining control of Kherson, advancement stalled on both sides. Much of the fighting has shifted to Bakhmut. A renewed offensive is expected to take place in the spring, with rumors of Russia adding up to 500,000 soldiers to its ranks from a new mobilization. Ukraine continues to request military equipment and weapons from its Western allies, including the United States, and is set to receive Patriot missile systems and more tanks soon for a renewed counteroffensive effort.

However, according to Oleksiy Dmytrashkivskyi, head of the united press center of the Tavriskiy District of Ukrainian defense forces, Ukraine responded with force to Russia’s late-January probe, allegedly leading to the death of thousands of Russian soldiers, including the brigade’s command staff. Dmytrashkivskyi said Russia also lost 130 pieces of equipment in Ukraine’s attack, including 36 tanks.

Politico reported that Russia lost its brigade while investigating Ukraine’s defensive measures ahead of instigating another offensive attack. When Russia began to extend its forces into Vuhledar with its “elite” 155th naval infantry, it was met with a Ukraine defense that allegedly crippled the brigade.

The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) released a report over the weekend that detailed Russia’s failed attempts in battles near Vuhledar.

“Russian forces’ reported culmination and tactical failures around Vuhledar, Donetsk Oblast, have likely further weakened the Russian ultranationalist community’s belief that Russian forces are able to launch a decisive offensive operation,” the report said.

The report went on to say that Russian forces “lost the initiative” to capture Vuhledar late January as Ukraine responded with transferring more troops to the area.

Why Did Russian Troops Want Vuhledar?

The Week Magazine reported that Russia focused its troops on Vuhledar, as the town is vital to disrupt supply lines to Ukrainian troops and is centric to Russia’s capture of the Donetsk region. According to the article, Russia began probing Ukraine’s defense of the town late last month to identify Ukraine’s weaknesses in the area.

However, Ukraine maintains a strong defense that has crippled some of Russia’s troops.

Russia’s failed attempt to seize Vuhledar in January has led to further criticism of the Kremlin’s military capabilities from Russian military bloggers, or milbloggers. Some speculate that Russia won’t be able to successfully attack the entire Donetsk region.

“The milblogger made his assessment that the Russian offensive to capture Vuhledar has likely culminated in response to viral footage showing Ukrainian forces destroying a disorderly column of Russian mechanized forces in the Vuhledar area,” the ISW report said. “Russian milbloggers seized on the footage to criticize the Russian military command for repeating the same failures that have plagued the Russian military throughout the war in Ukraine, with one prominent milblogger arguing that such incidents illustrate that the Russian army is unable to conduct an offensive along the entire Donetsk front.”

3- Why Are So Many Russian Soldiers Dying?

Inexperienced Russian Troops Allegedly Ditch 30 Vehicles After Failed Assault

Russia’s forces are losing more troops than at any point in their invasion of Ukraine, according to Kyiv. One expert told Newsweek that Moscow is throwing ill-trained soldiers to progress in the Donbas region “at any cost.”

The Ukrainian armed forces said on Saturday that, over the previous day, 1,140 Russian troops had died in what was the highest toll since the war started on February 24, 2022. The previous record was only four days earlier, when Ukraine said on Tuesday that 1,030 Russian troops had died.

A Ukrainian serviceman of the State Border Guard Service works in a position in Bakhmut on February 9, 2023. Ukrainian data has showed that Russia has lost more troops in February 2023 than at any other time during the war.

Monday’s figure was lower at 560, taking Ukraine’s estimate of troop losses over the war so far to 138,340. But British defense officials said over the weekend that so far in February, an average of 824 Russian soldiers were dying per day—the highest rate since the start of Vladimir Putin’s invasion.

The U.K. Ministry of Defense put the increase in Russian casualties down to factors such as a lack of “trained personnel, coordination, and resources across the front.” This was “exemplified in Vuhledar and Bakhmut,” referring to the cities in the Donetsk oblast where fierce fighting is ongoing.

Gauging Russian losses is tricky, and Ukraine’s tally is higher than other Western estimates, although British Ministry of Defense said that Kyiv’s figures are “likely accurate.” The Russian defense ministry, which Newsweek has contacted for comment, has not updated its toll since the end of September of just under 6,000.

Dionis Cenusa, a risk analyst from the Eastern Europe Studies Center, told Newsweek that the high death toll had two main explanations. “On the one hand, Russia is not valuing the lives of newly recruited soldiers who continue to be used as ‘cannon fodder.’”

He said that the Kremlin was also giving orders to less well-trained recruits “without much reading of the military environment on the ground—to resume the offensive in Donbas and try to advance at any cost.”

“The number of casualties among the Russian forces could be rising, when the Ukrainian army gets the new military equipment in the coming weeks,” he added.

Thomas O’Donnell, a geopolitical analyst and global fellow with the Wilson Center think-tank, told Newsweek from Berlin that it was significant that the increased death toll coincided with a change in Russia’s war strategy, which comes as troops are mobilized.

“It seems like Putin is hunkering down for a long war and is demonstrating that he is willing to take casualties on a vast scale to compensate for the advanced weaponry that the West can supply and the better tactics and command that Ukraine can supply,” O’Donnell said.

When you write the propaganda script then you get to decide the ending…The West is predicting a big Russian offensive. Then, when it never happens, they can claim victory for having stopped it.

Ukraine is Approaching the Crimea! The Russian Army is Insufficient to Prevent Attacks in the Crimea
Tiger Claw
Feb 13, 2023 8:00 p.m. EST
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t07ufiyJaq8

“New and important developments are taking place every day in the Ukraine-Russia war. There are fierce clashes between the Ukrainian Army and the Russian Army, especially in the Donetsk region.

While the Russian Army wants to gain dominance in the Donetsk region, the Ukrainian Army does not allow this. The losses of the Russian Army in recent days attract attention. The Russian Army started to send most of its soldiers to the Donetsk region. The Russian Army, which wants to completely occupy the Donetsk region, organizes about 50 attacks a day.

According to Valeriy Zaluzhnyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, intense clashes are taking place in the Vuhledar and Maryinka region. Zaluzhnyi made the following statements about the ongoing clashes: “We are holding the defense reliably. In some areas of the front, we managed to regain our previously lost positions and gained a firm foothold.”

While the Russian Army continues its offensive in the Donetsk region, they are also suffering heavy losses. The Russian Army has lost a record number of personnel in recent days. On average, the Russian Army has lost 824 personnel per day in the last seven days. This number is four times higher than the June-July 2022 personnel losses. According to UK Defence Intelligence, the Russian Army suffers most of its losses in the Vuhledar and Bakhmut regions. British Intelligence states that the reason for the losses is the lack of trained personnel, coordination and resources on the front line.

While the Ukrainian Army continues its offensive, the Russian occupiers are taking heavy losses. In the past weeks, Ukrainian partisans carried out a successful attack in Mariupol and managed to kill 3 Russian officers. Ukrainian partisans prepared for this attack weeks ago.

Ukrainian intelligence successfully identified the house where 3 Russian officers were staying. Ukrainian Partisans started to follow the Russian officers with the intelligence they received. The officers were staying in a house on Metropolitan Street. Partisans settled for an ambush at night in the houses of the Russian officers they had been watching for days.”

Russian Politician Says It’s Time to ‘Admit’ Real Reason for Ukraine War
Andrew Stanton
2/13/23 2:27 PM EST
https://www.newsweek.com/russian-politician-says-time-admit-real-reason-ukraine-war-1780903

Russian State Duma member Andrey Gurulyov called on the Kremlin to “admit” the real reason for the Ukraine invasion during a recent appearance on Russian state TV.

After launching the war last February, Russian President Vladimir Putin has offered a number of reasons for invading Ukraine. He has argued he is only trying to “liberate” Donbas, a separatist region in southeastern Ukraine with linguistic ties to Russia. He has also said he aimed to remove Nazis from the Ukrainian government, despite Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky himself being Jewish.

Most world leaders have condemned the “special military operation,” arguing it lacks real justification beyond Putin’s ideal goal of retaking Ukraine’s territory, but the Kremlin has maintained its stated goals nearly one year after entering Ukraine.

Gurulyov argued Putin should finally own up to why he launched the Ukraine invasion during the Russian state TV appearance. The Kremlin has cracked down on free press amid the war, meaning the television news show largely serves as Putin’s propaganda. His remarks were translated and posted to Twitter by journalist Julia Davis, who regularly tracks Russian state TV.

“We should shut down the topic of Ukraine for good and admit that denazification and demilitarization will shut down Ukraine as a project once and for all,” he said. “It once existed, but it is no more.”

He continued to assert that “there is no Ukraine” and that the country is actually a territory of Russia. He described retaking control of Ukraine as “the most important thing to accomplish today.”

***** State Duma member Andrey Gurulyov, former deputy commander of Russia’s So. military district, says that eliminating Ukraine and taking all of its territory is Russia’s main goal and it’s time to admit that’s what “demilitarization & denazification” means.https://t.co/YIYb8fIyTL
— Julia Davis (@JuliaDavisNews) February 13, 2023***

For decades Ukraine was part of the Soviet Union but declared its independence in 1991. Ukraine, alongside other former Soviet states, has since been recognized as an independent nation, with the USSR dissolving just months later.

In the years since, however, Russia has claimed parts of Ukraine as its own. In 2014, Putin ordered a military invasion of Crimea, a region along the Black Sea that ended Russia annexing the peninsula, though Ukraine still views it as its own and has expressed interest in retaking control of it before the war ends.

Alex Christoforou of The Duran: "Looking at the physical reality of the situation. There are no tanks, there are no fight jets and there is no ammo to give.

"Tanks and fight jets, if there are available to give, the time it would take to train (Ukraine soldiers) will take too long.

"It's not going to make a difference. Everyone knows it isn't going to make a difference. It's obvious.

"We've even had commanders in the Polish military, former ones, that have said it's over.

"Ukraine doesn't have the ability to launch an offensive."

Isn’t it absurd how neocommies rant Ukraine is lost, the equipment they receive can’t help them, the war is over....

If that were true, what are they so upset about? They want Russia to win and they angrily insist Russia is 100% winning and it’s all over.

That is not a discussion and it’s barely an opinion. It’s pure propaganda tactics.

I favor Ukraine because I believe that’s in America’s interest. I do not predict and certainly do not insist on what the outcome will be.

Propagandists are pernicious.
