Sex 'n' drugs 'n' rock 'n' roll have replaced readin', writin' and 'rithmetic in Chicago schools.
Dylan Sharkey reported, "Chicago Board of Education Inspector General Will Fletcher reported 470 sexual complaints against Chicago Public School employees from students in 2022.
"The report details students being abused, groped, groomed, assaulted and threatened by school officials.
"One investigation found a former Junior ROTC staff member had sex with a 16-year-old high school student for a year. When he learned there was an investigation, the staff member threatened to kill the girl and her family if she cooperated with investigators."
The teacher gave the girl alcohol and marijuana.
Fox reported, "An OIG investigation concluded one teacher groomed and sexually assaulted a 17-year-old student three times. That teacher was charged with multiple counts of sexual assault. After a November 2022 trial, the teacher was acquitted on all counts, the report said, despite evidence provided by the student and social media records.
"The pair also exchanged hundreds of text messages and calls."
The teacher texted, "I’m ready to f--- right now … I’m not gonna be gentle either."
How romantic.
WFIN reported, "One charter school administrator took a high school junior to a Broadway play in downtown Chicago when he touched her leg during the performance, the report said. After the show, while driving the student home, he “slid his hand down inside of the front of the student’s pants and touched his genitals.”
"The administrator also took the student on trips to Las Vegas, Los Angeles, London, Ibiza and the Bahamas, the OIG said. The administrator resigned after the OIG recommended he be terminated."
If not terminated, at least the school system should eliminate his travel budget.
Highlights from the Chicago City Wire story included:
- A CPS high school gym teacher who repeatedly exposed himself to one sophomore girl and connected with another 15 year old student on social media and "sent her photos and videos of himself masturbating and engaged in other sexual acts."
- A CPS substitute teacher who "asked a student to recruit another student for a 'threesome," told another student he loved her, repeatedly attempted to kiss a student and asked her "to make out with him," commented on a student’s “hickey" and described himself to students as "well hung."
- A CPS elementary teacher who "sexually touched" a CPS student repeatedly over several years, when he was 11 to 14 years old. He also "purchased food and gifts for the student and members of his family," and "spent the night in the student’s bedroom, having sex with the student."
470 teachers sexing students is 2% of the 21,974 teachers in the public school district.
That means 98% of the teachers in Chicago have not been caught having sex with students.
Covid has killed less than 0.5% of the population. We made a big deal out of covid. This should be a Drudge Report flashing alarm story because this scandal goes well beyond sex. The sex stories were just part of a 120-page OIG report.
Chicago Chalkbeat reported, "Chicago Public Schools’ watchdog is raising red flags about sharply increasing extra pay for school staff in recent years, rising sexual misconduct complaints, and a troubling practice of schools mislabeling students as transfers when they’re missing school.
"The district’s Office of Inspector General detailed these and dozens of other instances of fraud, misconduct, and wrongdoing in a sweeping 120-page annual report released Thursday.
"Inspector General Will Fletcher said his office received 1,825 complaints and opened investigations into 725 — or about 40% — of them. Hundreds were allegations of sexual misconduct taken up by a special unit of investigators created in 2018, which also is investigating complaints received in previous years."
The school system, which is partly funded on enrollment, continues to fudge numbers on truancy despite five OIG reports in the last 8 years.
Chicago Public Schools spokeswoman Mary Fergus wrote in response to the scandal, "As a District, we take seriously our responsibility to serve our families with integrity and to address individuals who breach CPS policies and the public’s trust — and hold them accountable. CPS will continue to ensure our District policies and procedures support the highest ethical standards to ensure our valued team members act in the best interest of our students."
