This is something we should be greatly concerned about.
It is a well known fact that the most disciplined troops display the best conduct in any contested area where armed conflict is underway.
When shock troops conquer an area, there is generally good order and fewer abuses as a rule of thumb. It is when the less disciplined troops arrive on the scene that the level of abuses ramp up.
Sex is about power to many people. It is used to establish domination to them. And it is exactly that mindset in a strictly hierarchal military environment that makes it so dangerous.
Sexuality of all kinds, hetero, homo, S&M, you name it, has always existed in the military. But there was a reason there have been damned strict rules, no women, no fraternization, no homosexuality.
The military holds the power of life and death, and is totally hierarchal in nature. Good discipline is VITAL to a critical veneer of morality, and there is nothing more corrosive to discipline and good order, perhaps not even money, to that discipline and good order, than open sexual permissiveness.
The fact is, people become morally unhinged when they openly succumb to the power of sex. It isn't just about people having sex. It is everything that surrounds it, that is inherent in the power structure.
It is no secret that someone who has uncontrolled sexual urges is not only a security hazard, but a physical and moral hazard as well. People will do nearly anything for sex. The sexual drive compels people to do things they would never even, in their normal mind, remotely consider. They will sacrifice everything, a long and distinguished career, a marriage, a family, their friends and their reputation, for seconds or minutes worth of sexual pleasure.
We have manually over-ridden these sexual strictures in both public and military life, by deliberately inserting women into an all-male environment, and by openly approving homosexuality and deviancy, as if those things had no impact whatsoever on discipline and good order.
It's "just a job", after all.
We have deliberately placed people in rigidly hierarchal positions of power and have now saturated that environment with sexual permissiveness and deviancy.
If a person will sacrifice everything, a long and distinguished career, a marriage, a family, their friends and their reputation, for seconds or minutes worth of sexual pleasure, one doesn't need to be a rocket scientist to understand fully how that sexual urge can and will be used by people in positions of power to exploit it.
Thirty years ago, we should have all been concerned about the camel's nose in the tent, and the long term impact of the "Don't Ask-Don't Tell" policy.
We had a President getting fellated by a woman under his desk while he spoke on the phone in the Oval Office, and the Left insisted that it was "just sex" and nobody else's business.
What we see in this today is only the tip of the iceberg of what we will see tomorrow, and we should be damned concerned about it.
