Absolutely and done properly the devices would have incorporated high explosives from a country such as Iran or widely available HE made in Eastern Europe and marketed world wide. Some HE is actually marked with specific microscopic identifiers that can be recovered from explosive residue. I’m not 100% sure such microscopic residue can also be picked up from an undersea detonation but it likely can.
Would the perpetrators make such mistakes? Only if they are STUPID. But since this was a STUPID and not well thought out plan, they could certainly neglected common precautions.
Someone pointed out...the depth here in the area, is just 70 meters (230 ft). Could easily have been just one single fanatic with some WW III agenda on his mind. Funny how they were 15 hours apart (doubt if it was a timer-device).
