In a different scenario, investors in Detroit were buying up all the abandoned properties surrounding the downtown area for pennies on the dollar. Abandoned warehouses purchased are being turned into lofts or apartments or novelty store fronts and eateries.
Over the past decade or so, the transformation of the downtown area has been quite remarkable......
and live like the Mexicans who were prior tenants in a house we rented once. I could tell my the matted down carpet and dirt stained lower walls of a closet that someone had been sleeping in it. There was about 30 of them total living in a four bdrm house.
Many don’t have the ability to run their lives. Work, pay bills, keep a bank account, cook, clean, ownership and upkeep of a vehicle. They were never taught and they might be third generation ignorant of those thing and habits. All they were taught is how to get by on the welfare system.
Parents didn’t teach life skills. Parents didn’t have a real life so they didn’t learn by example. Schools don’t teach it. Very few prison programs teach it and if they do, it’s a voluntary program.
If brighter days are ahead for the U.S. economy, why are so many tent cities popping up all over the nation?

We lived in a welfare town in NYS for 18 LONG years and saw it all, including one very dysfunctional family where the kids actually turned their lives around as adults and became productive, hard working members of society.
But I hear way too many stories over the years of people who are living like this by choice and have turned down offers to provide them with a place to live. They WANT to live life on the streets.

Unfortunately sooner or later you’re gonna start seeing tents pop up in red states or cities because 5 million illegals need a place to stay. Where are they going to stay? And something else that has been bothering me and wondering what was in that almost $1 billion bill they passed? Deep in there I bet you anything there’s funds for the illegals to have all the luxuries that have been denied to Americans who are suffering and are forced to live in tents. Sickening isn’t it?! Truly all our leaders in DC have failed us! All of them. It’s sad to say that I can count at least less than 10 that really care about America but that’s it. Those bastards lifetime career politicians have doomed America.
Yes, rents have gone through the roof as has the cost of groceries, gas, etc. But, no one ever mentions that wages have gone through the roof. It's all relative. If you have two working adults making minimum wage they are easily bringing home $30 p/hour plus any benefits. If minimum wage they probably qualify for foods stamps and other assistance.
It's been decades since I paid rent so I could be completely wrong but a lot of states have minimum wage of $15 p/hour.
