We’ll I get it, I suppose. Considering the overwrought narrative explanation, rather than attribute it to crypto-paganism, I’m going with lib artsy-fartsiness. I don’t know what the author’s talking about; this sort of tendentious display has been used as long as I can remember in, for example, Olympic opening and closing ceremonies

In the city center of Brum (as we from there call it) is an area known as the Bull Ring. I suppose that has something to do with the origins of this display. Not that I find the other analysis to be invalid.
