America and Americans are sufferinng and our congress votes 100 - 0 (senate) and the house 417 - 10 to resurrect the WW2 lend-lease program to rearm Ukraine with obsolete weapons which will have no way to get to areas of Ukraine where anybody could even think about doing anything with them.

In the context of US politics, the term "bipartisan" means evil "AND" stupid. In real life, the only reason there would ever be for ANYTHING to ever pass the US senate unanimously like that is blackmail.

Maybe they’re just waiting to see Putin’s cronies stab him in the back while he’s disabled due to surgery, and looking forward to seeing the resulting feeding frenzy among them in the aftermath...

“In diplomacy there are two kinds of problems, small ones and large ones. The small ones will go away by themselves, and the large ones you will not be able to do anything about.” — Patrick McGuinness

Of course that leaves out problems folks make bigger than they already were, including already big ones, by thinking to always have to do something about them if only because they don’t want to seem to not be doing something.

Foggy Bottoms, aside from having a history of being far too full of commies and useful idiots for commies, also has its share of people who think “something must be done” is actually alone a reasonable cause for doing what usually makes things worse. Of course Congress has far too many of those too. “There ought to be a law!” is domestically the battlecry of people who are loath not seeming busy and caring. Shipping weapons to one side in a war that isn’t ours can be an international version.

The Dutch boy stuck his finger in the dyke, not in the ocean.

(Sticking a finger in the dyke meant something different back then.)

During World War II, the Dutch blew the dyke to impede the German invasion.

(Blowing a dyke mean something different back then.)

Dick van Dyke was a popular comedian back in the 1960s.

Dick van Dyke didn’t mean what you might think it means, back then.

With respect, it certainly seemed effective when practiced by the Reds in Korea and Vietnam—and we all know how that turned out.

to rearm Ukraine with obsolete weapons which will have no way to get to areas of Ukraine where anybody could even think about doing anything with them.

You mean weapons like the M777 howitzer that is so obsolete our own military uses it?

Or the projectile that was so obsolete that it allowed the Ukrainian military to get a first shot hit and kill on a Russian general a day or so ago?

So far, advanced western weaponry HAS helped Ukraine, so the premise of this article is completely invalid.

I am sorry, but I was around during the 50’s, 60’s. 70’s etc and I am not going back to a militant hyper warlike rougish Russia if I can help it. The Russians are not winning and the Ukraine is not lost. I saw a picture showing an ocean of Russian soldiers and guess what. Not a one of them was wearing glasses. Just like the Soviet Union the present day Russia does not outfit its soldiers with glasses meaning a lot of them cant see a target much less hit it. And you guys think this incompetent stupid but thuggish country has this war sewed up and their is nothing we can do about it. Yes we can help and we need to help the Ukrainians.

Ukrainian artillery precisely targets a T-72 tank crew and kills them. Tank is still fine.

It’s pretty amazing what the Ukrainians are doing with cast-offs and decades-old technology - stalemating the #2 military in the world. By this time (60+ days) into the German invasion of Russia, the Heer had advanced 600 miles into Russia and taken millions of Russian POW’s. The Russians were armed with state of the art gear, including one of the best tanks of the war, the T-34 and had an army several times as large. The Ukrainians, armed with the rusting remnants of equipment from decades ago, are somehow holding Russian gains to within 150 miles of the Russian start line, through what seems like an act of will, despite superior Russian numbers and equipment. With better weaponry, Ukraine should do much better.

Hey ganeemed, whoever the f you are: our congress? You, you personally, have Duma to comment on, not US Congress. None of your business how elected US representatives vote.

If this headline was true then Pooty would not be going into absolute flaming hissy fits over the aid every few days, constantly threatening everyone with nukes.

Here is some context and background to what’s going on in Ukraine. As for how America is suffering...we are suffering mostly because of policies the Democrats have put in place. Not because of giving money or weapons to Ukraine. We would have expensive gas without any war or war assistance to Ukraine because the environazis want us to suffer. As to the money to Ukraine, as Peter Zeihan points out if we don’t fight Russia in Ukraine, we will be fighting them in NATO countries. Peter explains why this is so. It doesn’t matter if we think Putin’s reasoning is idiotic. He believes it so we have to deal with that reality.

This is perhaps the worst possible spin to put on the aid used to address the crisis in the Ukraine. The Ukrainians themselves are bearing the brunt of the actual conflict, because for them the fight is existential. They fail, they either die or find themselves once more the unwilling subjects of the Russian hegemony. Even obsolete weaponry, in sufficient quantity, is enough to force the Russians from their land, as happened to the Soviets in Afghanistan.

The Ukrainians are not going to move to occupy Moscow, or even neighboring Belarus, should they finally succeed in driving Russians back to the borders of before February 24, 2022. They may never get the regions of Donbas or the Crimea back, that is to be adjudicated at a later time.

All this bad calculus on the part of Putin is going to leave an economic burden on the Russian Federation that may well send them the way of the former Soviet Union, which went broke trying to keep up with failures in their military forays and logistics.

I hear Biden is going to AL tomorrow to see the weapons being made by Lockheed-Martin that are to be sent to Ukraine. Do you suppose the company will let him try them out? What a photo-op, Joe. Go for it!! Would make a great 2024 campaign ad!!!

This is just...so bad. The idea that the weapons being provided "can't help" Ukraine is a complete joke to anyone with a smidge of military knowledge.

But keep pumping it out. Nice to be able to identify both the witting and unwitting pawns of Russia and the CCP.
