A CBDC system would be radically simplified. A customer would open an account directly with a country’s central bank, and the central bank would issue (create) digital money in the account. Crucially, this makes the money a direct liability of the Fed, rather than of a private bank. Using a simple smartphone app or other tools, the customer can then initiate direct transactions between Fed accounts. The digital money is deleted in one account and recreated in another instantaneously. Moving money across borders no longer requires something as complex as SWIFT or wire transfers, and currencies can be exchanged instantly as long as friendly central banks have agreements to do so. No promises or trust are necessary; every transaction is permanently recorded on a digital cryptographic ledger in real time—a bit like Bitcoin, but exquisitely centralized rather than distributed.

CBDC is for people who trust banks more than they trust math and logic.

People with their chic CBDC accounts will be walking into gun shops or other politically-incorrect businesses and will be told “your money is no good here”, because it literally will not be good there. The transactions will be blocked.

CBDC will come with “policy” which restricts what you can do with it. If you have a substantial cash balance with an institution which is in imminent danger of converting your balance to a digital stablecoin, I strongly suggest you move your money out of harm’s way.

For some reason I have yet to discover, I am not permitted to post from ZeroHedge. If you know what the reason is, please let me in on the secret.

The US Constitution does enshrine what WE (the people) can do, it limits what the Federal government can do. If it’s not in the constitution, then it goes to the state constitutions or the localities.

Otherwise, the people are free to live their lives as they see fit including the freedom to “transact” between each other.
