For eight years, Kiev ignored the Minsk Agreement, which it signed off on that would have brought peace to Donbass. That isn't Putin's fault.
But, ultimate set the whole war off is NATO's refusal to rule NATO membership for Ukraine. We promised the Russians in the early 90s no eastward expansion of NATO. Potentially expanding to their backyard was as the equivalent of the Cuban missile crisis for us.
Yes, I believe in peace through strength. But, a meddling foreign policy that aggressively tries to harm a great military and nuclear power like Russia is a danger to national security.
