They should have, because the reality is all the options end up at this options:

My idea: We ‘offer’ to ‘buy’ eastern Siberia. Working agreement. Penal colony on ‘US’ soil. They run/staff it. Their only instructions are found in the 4th amendment(?) against cruel and unusual punishment. Negotiate a price per prisoner where our costs go down. Empty our jails(flush our toilet).
After 99 years put up a referendum to see wheather or not they want to become a part of Alaska officially. It will keep the Chicom’s in check and give back those 4 Japanese islands-for a PRICE.
If Russia falls, Turkey rises.
The fall of the USA under the influence of China is already underway.
West Alaska on its way.
I see number 6 happening. China has designs on Siberia and will colonize it, buy it, or steal it sometime this century. The rump state of Russia will itself be dismembered. Their time as an empire is passed.
So when does the US Balkanize?
