Meaning they have ZERO incentive to leave.

Because cowering won’t save them.

Not really. It’s a pretty common trope directed at people who hunt, people in uniformed service / police or military enforcing things people don’t like, people who drive certain types of vehicles that some don’t like, people who like tools and machinery, that they’re “compensating for something.” The reality is that while some people derive some sense of superiority from trying to attribute the disagreeable or allegedly disagreeable tastes or actions of others to an embarrassing deficiency of some sort, the reality is that there’s accounting for what drives people.
