Russia once again asks US, EU for written answers to its demands on NATO

Russia again expects the US and EU countries to provide written responses to demands for security guarantees related to NATO's refusal to expand to the east. In particular, this was stated by Russian Ambassador to Washington Anatoly Antonov, who shared his own assessment of the results of his country's dialogue with the United States in an interview with Newsweek.

"It must be admitted that the discussions held last week with the United States and NATO have not yet yielded any significant results. We expect written responses from Washington and Brussels to our draft agreements. Based on them, we will make a decision on the advisability of further joint work. We are also ready to discuss counter proposals," he said.

The Russian envoy said that the main topic of the talks "was to preserve peace and stability in Europe by working out security guarantees on the basis of draft agreements proposed by Moscow."

"After the collapse of the USSR, the security situation in Europe deteriorated sharply. Five 'waves' of NATO expansion have brought the Alliance States forces closer to our borders. The continuing advance of the North Atlantic bloc to the east is one of the main threats to Russia's national security," Antonov said.

He noted that as NATO approaches the border of the Russian Federation, the flight time of the air and missile weapons of the alliance to Moscow, St. Petersburg and other cities of the European part of the country is reduced.

"How would the U.S. Government react if Washington, New York or Los Angeles were 'under the bombsight'?" he added.

It seems Russia is not ready to invade (yet) and wants to keep talking.Question: Could Russia be an honest broker in this, or is this just a ploy to keep NATO at bay???

I expect Russia to turn the screws a bit, since they have all the cards. They may start with non-military options, by saying that their having ‘technical malfunctions’ with their gas pipelines going to Europe...that alone will get Europe off their backs and on the phone to DC to tell Biden to back off.

We would be better off and conceivably the Ukrainians, too, if we just told Putin to take the place with our blessings. It has been the source of an incredible amount of corruption in Ukraine and in America and the chance of a turnaround is nil. The only strategi reason to maintain Ukraine is the Crimea which Russia already got.

Total claptrap bright on by Biden weakness because no one was looking to add Ukraine to NATO at this time.

Russia cannot afford a war.
Since they have nukes, their borders are
kind of safe.
They can, however scare people.
They know present USA is run by pussies, and Europe
is even worse(two world wars killed all the real men).
They also know Ukraine will not allow a second Holodomor.

“We would be better off and conceivably the Ukrainians, too, if we just told Putin to take the place with our blessings.”

This would also help us as it would cripple Russia. If Russia did annex it they would need a permanent occupation force that would drain their resources and would likely see a long term terrorist campaign within Russia.

One way to think of it is that Ukraine is to Russia what Ireland has been to the UK.

There is no more Free World and Biden is not their leader. George Soros has more power. Putin is playing a game of “Chicken”(Thats where two hot rods drive at each other to see who will swerve first. Don’t Blink!). I don’t think Biden’s up to this game of nuke chicken!

If Russia wants to play Russian roulette that’s their choice. The Pentagon tracks Putin 24/7/365 and if he fires a nuke at us ten will certainly be fired at him.

Mutually Assured Destruction never ended as a US national policy with regards to Russian NBC attacks on the USA.

They can shoot a nuke at us and we’ll shoot hundreds in response.

Didn’t someone tell them that we would “circle back” as soon as possible with the answers? Or did the same person at State who translated Hillary’s “reset” button translate that for them?

It’s really an element of time and distance. Although the idea of a getting caught with your pants down by a land invasion in this era is laughable (given that anyone with an Internet connection can get pretty good real time-ish satellite imagery for free at this point), hypersonic missiles change this equation. If countries bordered by Russia has missiles of those types, the reaction time might be just a very few minutes. It’s not really any different than us getting nervous about missiles in Cuba (or Soviets getting nervous about missiles in Turkey, for that matter).

Putin would never launch a nuke. Better to “gift” one to Iran. who can give it to a group-—sneak it over the border as “drugs” and detonate it at a soft target or city. Maybe Atlanta or San Diego? Russians can say they have no idea where it came from? So sorry? Then, say its a false flag operation on the part of the USA to start a war.

Stop reading media on this. According to UNESCO there are 9 million starving in Ukraine right now, another 10 million left the country since 2014 due to a lack of jobs, and most of them to Russia.
That’s the result of the particularly corrupt ‘pro-American’ administrations.
Add to that political parties and TV channels banned by executive orders, people imprisoned for ‘wrong’ talk and even T-shirts with wrong symbols. Putin is the least of their problems.

Every nuke has a kind of fingerprint that identifies the source. If Russia gives someone a nuke and it gets used we’ll know it was a Russian nuke.

As of summer 2021 there are 300k Ukrainian karta pobytu holders in Poland, 1,928 million legal migrants in Russia.
There estimates of 5 million Ukrainians in Russia including whose who overstayed without proper documentation, I can’t exclude that there are about 3 million in Poland.
