Sad, but at least she faced reality and didn’t “dispose” of the baby.
You never know. Maybe God was working in the heart of this mother. She chose NOT to abort. I pray that God glorifies himself through the life of this child.
wth... is there NO welfare, no WICK???
At least the baby wasn’t destroyed, was found, and appears to be healthy.
Many cities have a no questions asked emergency drop off facility for such dire circumstances. dk if Fairbanks does, if so she may not have known.
From the note, “Please take me and find me a loving family”. People can judge all they want but this Mother has made the ultimate sacrifice for her child. Not only has she chosen to give birth but has realized that she cannot provide what a baby needs. Maybe she is very young. Maybe she comes from a situation where she fully understands that the child will have a life of “want”. Whatever the reasons, how many times have we read about some “so called Mom” that neglects, starves, abuses, beats, burns with cigarettes or allows the new boyfriend to rape or kill him or her? Plenty of times. My prayer is that this child finds what his birth Mom wants for him.. a loving family.
If she gives the baby up at a hospital, does she have to identify herself? I thought she could just “turn it in” and walk away.
Alaska has a huge “street people” population, though “street” may not be the best descriptor for Alaska. Substance abuse problems and chronic unemployment are severe, especially in the tribal population. Its very sad and is perpetuated by public policy.
Can’t afford to feed the baby..
hello, ever heard of breast milk?
...You can go crazy cheap on a baby...
Breastmilk is free, and that mostly covers food costs for what, six months at least?
Diapers, you can do cloth diapers and just wash ‘em. breastmilk poop isn’t that bad to clean out either.
You can get cheap/free clothes and other supplies at many thrift stores. Plus, friends and relatives will probably give you free stuff too. Religious charities often have free aid packs too.
So now it’s just a matter of time and attention. And, as others mentioned, momma’s gotta stay drug- and mostly alcohol-free!
