And last week Stephen Alford, 62, pleaded guilty in an attempt to extort $25 million from Matt Gaetz’s father.

According to The Washington Examiner, the announcement by the Justice Department marks a turnaround as Alford initially entered a not guilty plea. A charge of tampering with evidence was tossed, according to Northwest Florida Daily News .

They will give it a 30 second spot at best and be done with the story. That way they can say that they covered it.

Sigh. I know. It is a bit frustrating, to say the least.

They only got the cut-out. Let's see if they take down Kent and McGee next:

"Stephen M. Alford, who has previously faced fraud and extortion charges , was also allegedly at the March 17 meeting and gave Don Gaetz his business card showing Captum Consultants. The April 2020 articles of incorporation for the company indicate they came from Beggs & Land, McGee’s firm.

"Kent, McGee, and Alford did not respond to requests for comment.

"McGee told the Daily Beast on Tuesday night, following Gaetz naming him on national television, that any claims that he or his law firm were involved in extortion are "completely, totally false," adding, “This is a blatant attempt to distract from the fact that Matt Gaetz is apparently about to be indicted for sex trafficking underage girls.”

Another email chain appears to confirm the existence of the FBI investigating extortion claims.

“My client, Don Gaetz, was approached by two individuals to make a sizable payment in what I would call a scheme to defraud,” Jeffrey Neiman said in a March 25 email to the Department of Justice. “The FBI is not asking Don to voluntarily and proactively assist in their investigation, which Don is willing to do. Please confirm that your Office and the FBI would like Don’s assistance in this matter and that he will be working at the Government’s request.”

Assistant U.S. Attorney David Goldberg responded: “I can confirm that your client is working with my office as well as the FBI at the government’s request in order to determine if a federal crime has been committed. This has been discussed with, and approved by, the FBI as well as the leadership of my office and components of Main Justice.”

Can anybody Here sort this out?

The gist of it, from what I can see, is this man threatened to accuse Matt Goetz of sex crimes unless he got paid.

But instead of falling for it they immediately went to the FBI. And then... *somehow*... it leaked to the news that Goetz was “accused”.

Do I have that right? Is the FBI once again complicit??

“Pleaded” guilty is correct. There is no such word as ‘pled’, despite its constant misuse over the last couple of decades.

At least I think that’s right.

Pay us $25M or your son goes to jail as a convicted pedophile.

We still don't know who Alford's partner "Person A" is. He probably flipped or was FBI from the start and the whole "investigation" of Matt Gaetz was part of a sting, with the side benefit of dragging a Trump supporter through the mud.

This, along with the Project Veritas privileged attorney / client information being leaked, it appears that the fibbies have a direct conduit to the slimes.

I guess they use cnn when they need on the ground reporting and dynamic video footage, ala, Rodger Stone.

I’ve seen “pled” in some of the appeals my brother, an attorney, has filed. I don’t claim that that makes it correct, just that it is commonly used.

The raid on Project Veritas was leaked in record time to the New York Times.

(And the NYTs is currently the subject of a Project Veritas civil lawsuit).

Yes, Alford was extorting Matt’s dad, saying his son was being investigated by the FBI and would go to jail unless he paid the money. Alford claimed his partner had connections to make the charges disappear and make his son come out looking like a hero. Like I said above, the FBI was probably involved from the beginning.

Hell of it is, their rotten trick kinda worked,as Gaetz was a very effective and vocal critic of the left and I haven’t seen him on TV for months.

Merriam-Webster considers pled to be a standard English word.

I would have responded to your post sooner, but a cut my finger and bleeded all over my cell phone.
