Another foreign policy fiasco: Biden manages to trash America's ties with ... France

Being "wrong on nearly every major foreign policy and national security issue over the past four decades," is leading America to some very bizarre, uncharted waters.

That's what Joe Biden has wrought, living up to Bob Gates' memorable summary of his record.

Which brings us to Biden's latest fiasco, his unprecedented rupture in U.S. relations with France.

So much for 'diplomacy is back,' the campaign slogan he ran for office on and repeated a lot since.

Based on this latest example of "diplomacy," Biden's a diplomatic wrecking ball.

According to France24:

France on Friday recalled its ambassadors to the United States and Australia in a ferocious row over the scrapping of a submarine contract, an unprecedented step that revealed the extent of French anger against its allies.

President Emmanuel Macron made the exceptional decision due to the “gravity of the announcements on September 15 by Australia and the United States”, said French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian in a statement. The rare diplomatic backlash against France’s allies came two days after Australia announced the scrapping of a major purchase of French conventional submarines in favour of US nuclear-powered submarines.

The announcement represented “unacceptable behaviour between allies and partners”, said the statement.

France's foreign minister, Jean-Yves Le Drian, called it "a stab in the back."

In this case the Biden Misadministration may be a broken clock. Not getting along with France is a good thing IMHO.

That’s the plan. Stab the old allies in the back and invite the enemies into our homes to meet our daughters.

Or there’s been a falling out between Deep States.

As much as we were told Europeans hated president Trump, nobody (from EU) recalled their ambassador, as far as I can remember.
Biden is the first! Looks like he has really inane capability to screw things up!

Wait! What? Un-possible. I was told diplomacy was back, the adults are in charge now and we’re going to “build back better”. Now yur tellin’ me that’s not true? Well at least that evil orange man is gone and there’s no mean tweets, that’s something right?

We’re associating the French politicians with their people, and I can tell you the French people are nothing like their administration. The French were our strongest supporters and allies during the war for our independence, and WWII notwithstanding, they’ve been strong fighters for the cause of freedom. We should not conflate the socialism espoused by Macron and his cronies with the people who make up the French republic.

France was our ally in two world wars ….

I really had to stop reading right there. We save France’s A** during those two wars.

As my father used to say, “We repaid the help France gave us with interest.”

It was about the French trying the impossible - taking a sub designed as nuclear and putting in diesel engines instead, making the subs way more expensive.

The Aussies did not like that - they wanted nuclear. So now US yards will build them, and they will likely be based at Bangor, Washington.

Why would Australia base subs there? I would have thought Perth in Western Australia or Darwin in the Northern territories would be more like;y...

Exactly what is wrong with proving an improved (nuclear sub) to an ally instead of a product of lesser effectiveness (conventional sub)? Does anyone doubt the French would have done the same to us?

I’m not sure - I would agree with you, but perhaps the costs of building the super expensive facilities is more than the Aussies can afford. You need more than a simple dock - you need huge secure repair yards with state of the art tools set up for things nuclear. From Bangor, its about an hour or so run to the huge Bremerton Naval Yard.

Remember, the Aussies don’t like things nuclear, so that might be an angle also - keep the local enviro-wackos at bay.

France has a history of allying with major powers far from France with whom they have very little cultural connection:

1) Turkey
2) German Protestant States
3) Colonial America
4) Imperial Russia

Biden may have just pushed France into an defacto alliance with China.
