When Romney said: ‘47% of the country doesn’t pay income taxes,’ that wasn’t a statement about racial, ethnic or gender divisions. That was a statement on the unsustainability of our country’s finances - an economic reality - and arguably the only comment that ever came out Romney’s mouth that wasn’t absurd...notable that he said it in private, not public.
Who was Romney’s audience when he made that comment? Would he have made a similar comment to them about carried interest? Not in a million years. Divide and conquer. Chuck is spot on.
