I am not so sure of that - they have collected billions of dollars in the last year and have zero accountability with it. They seem pretty smart to me.

They have a permanent source of funding now. Once a corporation gives into extortion, those payments will continue forever. Eliminating the payments, or cutting them back will result in a firestorm of criticism and bad publicity no publicly traded company CEO can stand up against.
