Absent the well-deserved scorn for the author of this piece, the science was clear prior to the CCP virus that masks did NOT stop viral transmission.
Here is another good article from the Federalist that talks about this in a general sense, but there are lots of in-depth scientific studies online. It appears Google and other search engines are prioritizing “new studies” that point to the effectiveness of masking and pushing down accepted studies from 2019 and earlier that were far more comprehensive and well-accepted prior to Covid.
Anecdotally, the studies that show the transmission rates in states with harsh lock-downs and more mask mandates earlier vs states with no lock-downs or mask requirements are interesting. In the states with the most public health measures implemented to prevent the spread the infection rates are higher than states that did not implement such mandates. While there are many variables that can impact such a comparison and many are hard to quantify, it is noteworthy that your chance of contracting the virus and/or dying from the virus appears to be higher in NY vs FL or HI vs SD.
I would submit a hypothesis that I believe will be proven true in the future - we would have saved more lives with early administration or even prophylactic usage of HCQ and zinc and vitamins C and D than we did with masks. Dr. Harvey Risch (Yale) believes 75000-100000 deaths would have been prevented if the media and public health experts had not become hysterical about HCQ because of TDS. At the first sign of any symptoms there is clear evidence that shows early administration led to a far better outcome, but that was taken away from us by a lemming-like media that hated Trump more than they loved your grandparents.
