The premise “more ancient time” were simpler— is hilariously false premise. You mean the “simple times” when the Black Plague (completely no understanding of how it was transmitted, and prevention means being medieval voodoo)— were simple because ... Nature (the god these worship) killed everyone— naturally. The simplicity of the ignorant.

Ludicrous piece from tree hugging woods screamers. Mourning the death of “tree gods”. Pagan.

Poor simple people— they had to change their religion from worshipping trees to settling on landscape shrubs. Reformed Druids.

In 1910, my great grandparents bought empty land in Creston, British Columbia and started a started a fruit orchard. It stayed in the family for over 60 years. I just learned last week that my great grandfather planted “Grandfather Trees” in his orchard when each child and grandchild was born. He told each kid “That is your tree. You will get the harvest from that tree forever.”

The things you learn about your ancestors! What a sweet bit of news about his personality.

The grandfather tree thing does not work when everyone moves every few years, often to different parts of the country. The fruit trees we planted in northern Illinois are mostly grown now, being enjoyed by strangers, unless they were cut down.

Here’s an Earth First woods event— “mourning the loss” of trees who died... naturally— incomprehensible. The crying is quite forced and when it isn’t the person is clearly disturbed mentally.

Preserving natural resources is good stewardship. This lunacy which evolved into killing legal foresters by spiking trees with metal rods that killed them using chainsaws— criminal.

Within the helm of the apartment complex, there lives one old northern oak and one tall thick pine tree.

Both trees are veterans of many hurricanes, including Katrina and Laura.

I understand what the author is attempting to relay. Things go on in life, but we will look to things that don’t change, as a sort of anchor.

For me, these two trees, are my grandfather trees.

Wow, what a mess...

“They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator...” (Romans 1:25)

I could kind of sort of live like ancient people...have often said to people i could live in a cave...have thought seriously about going off grid.
But...big but...i would still want internet..radio...medical advances...some sort of indoor water...compost toilet.
Unless the original poster...who posted this via the internet.. lives in a tent or the like.. and practices ancient ways..so do they want some of the modern advances?

Otherwise, it can be a fine distinction between being paganistic ..or being someone who appreciates God’s work (nature). Is that you Santa Clause? :)
Is it wrong to be in awe of God’s work?
Is it not good to be stewards of the earth?

Iteresting we live in modern times..yet many thousand of people die everyday around the world...not all are Godless heathens, too.
Is pumping people full modern pharmaceutical Godly because it so much more advanced than what the ancients had?

Ted Kaczynski Lives! Blew up a perfectly decent MIT scientist and maimed him. For a “simpler” time according to his lunatic Manifesto which was Marxist, FRiend.

Remember the GREENS are really REDS.

Logic, reason, knowledge, history, science (real science not voodoo) came from “simpler times”, so that the fallacy of hubris can be explained.

It’s Semper... with a P- Latin- you know, from simpler times spread by the urban elite Roman Empire pagans. Black Plague— now there was a simpler time... and natural too!

Misanthropy. It’s a thing, not unique to “urban elites” and is self limiting by population wave forms. Peter Strozk talked about the “smellable” Trump people in Wal-mart. Photos at 11. Because he of course considers himself of a superior intellect.... Marxist.

Of course you are right. It’s even worse on suburban 1/4 acre lots.

But it is magical to a small child and maybe as that child grows into his or her 20s or 30s. Lots of people stay put long enough for that magic to work.

Even later in life those adults can go back to their long-sold childhood home and, if they are lucky, say to their kids “See that tree there? That’s my tree. Grandpa planted it for me.”

The premise “more ancient time” were simpler— is hilariously false premise.

Just so.

The more ancient times, were times when one tribe would slaughter another, take its women for continuous rape even unto death, and enslavement of its children. The concept of 'domestic violence' was utterly laughable. Tribal oddballs (like gays) would be tortured, then killed. Superstition over such things as 'witchcraft' would have people unjustly murdered.

As bad as things are in modern times, in ancient times they were 1000 times worse.

Your observation points out the literally rootless impermanence our cultural habits engender. Frequent relocation (either of oneself or the others around you if you stay) severs ties to family, community, place, and heritage, leaving a world of strangers. Choices do have to be made, but they always have a price.

Worshiping created trees— without regard to the Master Creator who created... us. We, who are said to be anti science. Heh.

I like trees, especially redwoods, when they’re
on the way to the mill.

Yep-Ancient simpler times people... deforested England. Tree huggers would have had a hard row to hoe... if they ever lived long enough to conceive of a hoe.

The very notion that all old things are the best things— flies in the face of the Malthusian assumptions (Paul Ehrlichs idiocy) that we will run out of food, when instead innovation and applied logic produced more food. The techno-Nazis of twatter, and gogggle and farcebuch all are there to manipulate— and ultimately to eliminate thought free and otherwise to their “plan” and finally eliminate people.

History nuts know that central to neo-Socialism (national, and world) is mimicry of earlier totalitarian models of these “new” concepts. Joseph Goebbels described Hitler, for example as a vegetarian whose hatred of Jewish and Christian religion largely came from the ethical distinction the two faiths made between the value of people and the value of other animals.
