Bobby Orr's Endorsement of Trump -- A mighty SCORE for MAGA Patriots of New England (with pic)

New England has produced some famous athletes: Larry Bird, Bill Russell, Tom Brady, Ted Williams.

But Bobby Orr holds a special place in the hearts of sports lovers in New England -- especially those who watched Orr play for the Boston Bruins on those low-res TVs of the 60's and 70's.

You see, as a kids growing up there, skating and ice hockey were rich personal experiences.  The many ponds and lakes in the region would freeze over in December, November, and January.  And all you needed to do was shovel way the snow on top and you had your own hockey rink -- for pick up games with friends.

And though born a Canuck, Bobby Orr was an American sportsman, a guy who exemplified a true sports hero.  He was hard working, backed up his teammates, didn't do politics, was a role model, and -- most important -- a sensation on the ice.

To this day, very few players stood above their peers like Orr did in hockey.  He scored tons of goals -- even though he played on defense.

And when you gave the puck to Orr deep in his own end with the length of the rink in front of him, well, that's when things got exciting.  And often enough, when he broke at high speed through the enemy blue line, he would score impossible shots -- or pass the puck beautifully to his teammate for an easy score.

For patriots of New England, this is a mighty endorsement.  And it may very well push Trump over the top in New Hampshire!

So what are your memories of Orr or those golden years of the Boston Bruins?

A New England hero steps up. Thank you, Bobby Orr.

In Boston we pronounce Orr without using either r. Ratha we would say it more like Bobby Awe...as in sho shock and awe.

What are Trump’s chances in New Hampshire?

I lived in West Newton and Arlington in the 80’s. Worked on Copley Square. Other than Wilmington, DE, I’ve never met more unfriendly people.

New England can’t take any credit for talent that came from elsewhere.

I think it will be close. Regardless, Bobby Awe’s endorsement is a point of pride now for all Republicans who live in the Region.

For my three liberal brothers who live there, they still can’t get over Tom Brady being friends with Trump. Sometimes I tease them and say, “You know that Tom Brady is a really smart guy.” It’s cognitive dissonance. -

What was almost as awesome at the time was the first name of the four primary defensemen for them at the time:

Bob(by Orr)

Carol (Vadnais)

Ted (Green)

Dallas (Smith)

Bob and Carol and Ted and Dallas

Endorsements this late in the campaign are of little value. At this point campaigns are moving the needle one or to points. Those of us who watched Bobby Orr play are now 60 plus. I was 9 in 1970 when the won the cup. Bobby is probably not going to swing an undecided at this point or convince some who was not going to vote to do so.

I actually met Phil Esposito on an airplane. He was putting his coat away in the overhead bin in the first class class cabin, as I walked past I congratulated him and he smiled and shook my man, saying “Thank you, young man”.

I will never forget his handshake. Mind you, he didn’t try to crush my hand, but you could feel the latent strength in that hand. My God, this was a guy who stood in the pocket right in the front of the enemy goal and had to muscle out the big brawny goons with his arms, shoulders, and elbows.

What a guy!

Yeah, you’re right, Steven. But when you meet the relatives at Thanksgiving, you can grin and say, “You know, that Bobby Orr was always a smart athlete.”

Among his many other talents, he would occasionally hold the puck for line changes.

Back in the early 70s, Boston Bruin hockey was an occasion for friends to congregate at someone’s house. A six pack and pretzels or beer nuts were the only requirements. Sundays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

I once saw them lose 3 in a row - one in December, one in January, one in February.

The biggest disappointment was, of course, ‘71. Even after 50 years, I have never forgiven the Montreal Canadians.

I could write on this subject forever, believe me!

As much as I admire Bobby Orr, save the word "hero" for someone who put their life on the line to save or protect another life.
