So long as your name is WhoIsJohnGalt, and so long as this is a food analogy ... and so long as it is about compromising ... with leftists ... and so long as Trump's favorite author is who she is ... I feel that gives me 5 solid reasons to offer Ayn's view on such matters:

"In any compromise between food and poison, death wins"

Reminds me of something I heard many years ago:

QUESTION: If you add a teaspoon of wine to a barrel of sewage, what do you get?
ANSWER: A barrel of sewage.

QUESTION: Now, if you instead add a teaspoon of sewage to a barrel of wine, what do you get from that combination?
ANSWER: A barrel of sewage.

Funny. I enjoyed it. While I doubt it will happen, gun registration and background checks need to be done away with along with CCWs - we should be able to carry as we please. I hate having to jump through hoops when my CCW needs to be renewed. I remember a time when I was a boy, when people where people would open or concealed carry.

Exactly.

In Russia, though historically not well enough heeded, at least in choosing leadership, they say: "A spoonful of tar spoils the barrel of honey"

Awesome!

Maybe though, fingers might be a better analogy than cake, because fingers are key to liberty, freedom and self defense?

“You took all my fingers, my thumbs and only left me with a nub of a pinky...I’m defenseless. I WANT MY FINGERS BACK. ALL OF THEM!”

One wonders how much the English long bow influenced our views on "the right to keep and bear arms." It was the 'great equalizer' of its day...

“Clinton Executive Orders?” Bull. There were the VAWA, the AWB,...all legislation passed by Congress.

RonaldReagan.com Official Blog
Ronald Reagan on Gun Control | NRA
MAY 15, 2018
IN HIS WORDS
https://www.reagan.com/ronald-reagan-on-gun-control-nra
“The topics of Ronald Reagan, the NRA and the 1994 assault weapons ban were among those fueling public debate about gun control that year. The former president joined Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter in publicly calling on Congress to ban the manufacture of military-grade assault weapons.

While that position was a departure from his previous opposition to gun control, Ronald Reagan made clear that his view was shaped in part by an ongoing scourge at the time of violence against law enforcement.”

President Donald Trump, by the way, is the best president we’ve had since George Washington. Get the vote out. We’re almost out of time.

Perhaps that's important, if your political views are greatly influenced by the statements of retired politicians, rather than constitutional law and republican principles. I can't see that it has much to do with the choices facing voters this year, unless they're basing their vote(s) on what Reagan, Ford or Carter might have said, years after they left office...

The lies we have been told over the years...

1962 We ONLY want to register handguns. Rifles will not be affected!
1964, We ONLY want to register ALL firearms, not ban them.

1968 We ONLY want to register all guns, and ban the import of foreign Saturday Night Specials, and 5-shot bolt action army surplus rifles! (they got the ban).

1970, We ONLY want to ban small American handguns. Rifles will not be affected!
1976 We ONLY want to ban ALL handguns! Rifles will not be affected!

1981, Actress Lee Grant on GMA screams...”THE NRA IS A RIFLE ORGANIZATION! THEY SHOULD GIVE UP THEIR HANDGUNS AND THEY CAN KEEP THEIR RIFLES!”

1984, they made a grab for the rifles, and missed, but played their hand.

1988,Josh Sugarmann, of the National Council to Ban Handguns tells how to ban rifles.

“Assault weapons’ menacing looks, coupled with the public’s confusion over
fully-automatic machine guns versus semi-automatic assault weapons
—anything that looks like a machine gun is assumed to be a machine
gun— can only increase the chance of public support for restrictions on
these weapons.”
– Josh Sugarmann

From 1976.

Nelson T. ‘Pete’ Shields
Founder of Handgun Control, Inc.

“I’m convinced that we have to have federal legislation to build on. We’re going to have to take one step at a time, and the first step is necessarily — given the political realities — going to be very modest.

Of course, it’s true that politicians will then go home and say, ‘This is a great law. The problem is solved.’ And it’s also true that such statements will tend to defuse the gun-control issue for a time.

So then we’ll have to strengthen that law, and then again to strengthen that law, and maybe again and again. Right now, though, we’d be satisfied not with half a loaf but with a slice. Our ultimate goal — total control of handguns in the United States — is going to take time.

My estimate is from seven to ten years. The problem is to slow down the increasing number of handguns sold in this country. The second problem is to get them all registered. And the final problem is to make the possession of all handguns and all handgun ammunition — except for the military, policemen, licensed security guards, licensed sporting clubs, and licensed gun collectors — TOTALLY ILLEGAL.”

-Pete Shields, Chairman and founder, Handgun Control Inc., “A Reporter At Large: Handguns,” The New Yorker, July 26, 1976, 57-58

“Yes, I’m for an outright ban [on handguns].”

-Pete Shields, Chairman emeritus, Handgun Control, Inc., 60 Minutes interview

HCI, around 1984, suddenly made a grab for the semi-auto rifles and shotguns, and missed But they showed their hand. As a result all gun owners know we are always up against a stacked deck.

Gun owners now know that any time we negotiate with those who want to ban guns, we are up against a stacked deck.

Yep. They have come a long way from “ONLY” wanting to register handguns.

I was 8 when GCA68 was passed, and I’m still PO’d about it. We need to REQUIRE Congress to repeal NFA34 & GCA68, and ALL OTHER gun legislation passed in the past couple of centuries. Yeah, I wanna reach back THAT FAR!

Do I think I’ll get what I want? Nope, but a guy can hope. Hope in one hand, spit in the other...

I can see. President Trump is the best president this country has seen for far longer than our lifetimes. Also, the assault weapons ban and Lautenberg Amendment (part of the Violence Against Women Act) were passed as legislation during the Clinton Administration--not by executive order. Not-so-American swing voters in import states have been a problem during the most critical times.

The 2nd doesn't read as: "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed .. unless or because of."
(Infringed: undermine, erode, diminish, weaken, impair, damage, compromise)

A God Given Right does not need a government permit!
