New CDC Numbers Show Lockdown’s Deadly Toll On Young People
The Daily Wire ^ | October 22, 2020 | Amanda Prestigiacomo

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) revealed Wednesday that young adults aged 25-44 years saw the largest increase in “excess” deaths from previous years, a stunning 26.5% jump.

The notable increase even surpassed the jump in excess deaths of older Americans, who are at much higher risk of COVID-19 fatality.

Moreover, according to the CDC, 100,947 excess deaths were not linked to COVID-19 at all.

Since such young people are at very low risk for COVID-19 fatality — 20-49-year-olds have a 99.98% chance of surviving the virus, per CDC data — it has been suggested that the shocking increase in deaths is largely attributable to deaths of “despair,” or deaths linked to our “cure” for the disease: lockdown measures.

Former Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Scott Gottlieb, one of the most vocal and earliest proponents of lockdown measures, admitted this much during a Wednesday news appearance.

“I would suspect that a good portion of the deaths in that younger cohort were deaths due to despair, due to other reasons,” admitted Gottlieb...

This is not surprising as this age group are the ones who have been hard hit in their employment. These are the folks who work in the ‘travel and leisure’ industries and many have lost their jobs.

Trump has been correct all along that we cannot ignore the mental, social, and economic impacts of shutting down the nation.

if there were 100,947 excess deaths, how did these people die? Drugs, suicide.????

Does the link have any breakdown of what the reported actual cause of death was/is?
I dunno that “died of despair” would fly as the docs fill out the death certs.

The lockdown will cost far more lives and cause far more suffering than the virus itself.

They timed that release right after the debate. I wonder how long they held it.

Hubby is also in the biz. Thank God he does real estate during the day and we’re both on social security or we’d be living in our car by now. The restaurant just reopened this week but the money is about half what he normally makes. 😖

Here is the original publication from the CDC. It does not provide any breakdown by cause, other than COVID-19 and not COVID-19.

Some of the deaths may actually be the result of COVID-19 infections that were not detected. Others may result from indirect causes, like people not going in for other medical care due to hospital shut downs.

The shapes of the mortality rate curves over time suggest that some of the identified subgroups have a different cause due to the lack of correlation with the main peaks of deaths from COVID-19.

The 25 to 44 year old group usually do not have medical problems like cancer, heart attacks, and strokes. So it is not likely this age group died because of fear of going to a hospital.

Now on the other hand, how many excess deaths have been recorded by the 45 and older group who did not go to see a doctor, but they had cancer, heart attacks, and strokes and that delay led to an early death?

I have - yet another - dumb question.

Case Fatality Rate for the USA is supposed to be 2.7% but 0.9% for Uganda and 0.8% for Tajikistan.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/COVID-19_pandemic_death_rates_by_country

Is that because Uganda and Tajikistan have such better health care systems than the USA?

It is also their time for graduations and attendant celebrations, proms, sports, dating, dancing ... big romantic weddings . . . and it is all being taken away from them.

The wonder, romance, and joy of entering young adulthood has been snatched away! For no reason!

Let those who so frightened of this mild cold virus, put on their masks and stay home.

Let the young get on with building their world.

I would venture that the US has a much higher % of very elderly folks living in nursing homes.

(The nursing home my Dad was in until his final days at the hospital is now a hotspot.)
