Trump honors war dead with his heart and wallet

The Vietnam Veterans Plaza in New York City honors the 1,741 New Yorkers who died in Vietnam, as well as 250,000 New Yorkers who served during that war. When Mayor Ed Koch needed someone to raise the money to build it in 1983, he called on Donald John Trump.

Trump raised the money the old-fashioned way, by writing the first check. He donated a million bucks, which was 40% of the $2.5 million needed.

This is an outstanding response to the Atlantic smear. There are other examples in the article documenting when President Trump honored our veterans.

who donates a million bucks to people they consider ‘losers’

what tge media did here was alinsky tactic of accusing the enemy of what they actually do/think

they wrote a piece thinking of obama, clinton, and biden,

then accused Trump of doing it

wonder how much Obama, Clintons, Harris and Biden have donated with their wallets and time to veteran causes over the decades?

These people would be the least likely to donate to veterans groups. On the other hand they would be the most likely to pardon terrorists and those in the military who betray our country.

$1 million back then was serious money, esp. for a not yet well-established entrepreneur.

Trump opposes endless, no-win wars. I suppose that had something to do with his avoiding service back when he was draft age. Not that Joe Biden - or many of the Never-Trump neo-cons - served in their day.

Nevertheless, Trump did not blame our servicemen. The VN memorials are to honor their service and also to remind us of the cost of war so, maybe, we avoid stupid wars in the future.

Trump never said McCain wasn’t a hero. Just the opposite. He said McCain was a hero, but we prefer heroes who win wars.

The connection of Trump’s comment on McCain to the war dead at Normandy is that they were heroes who won their war. Trump certainly would not disparage them.

This episode illustrates the brilliance of Limbaugh’s description of the drive by media. Once again, they drive by, launch an accusation or smear and drive away without waiting for a factual examination of the charge. Then, it takes a few days before positive information can be assembled to counter them. By then though, they don’t care. The have moved on and don’t even want to discuss it. Truth is not the objective. Maximum damage is the goal. And then they plan some other smear and start the process again.

If ever Trump privately referred to McCain as a “ loser”, he was right on
McCain was an ego-driven grandstanding politician who ran a lousy campaign in 2008 and basically took a knee to obama, who gave him the middle finger nose scratch during a debate
He sold out any hope of recovering or resolving the status of Vietnam War MIA’s, consorted with his former NV captors and ISIS terrorists as if they were noble savages and worked hard under the radar in Ukraine and Syria to perpetuate or reheat the “ Cold War” between the US and Russia as if that was our best and only strategic option
Then he worked with loser scum to bring down Trump with that false dossier

Yeah, loser is right

The issue with McCain was that he was using getting captured as an accomplishment.

I don’t know that McCain attacked Palin, but he should have chided his staff for putting the blame on her. The blame for his loss in 2008 was George W. Bush. Getting us into a stupid war and then having the economy collapse were too much for any Republican nominee to bear.

With respect to McCain’s bruised ego for that loss, there definitely was something going on between McCain and Trump that prevented McCain from thinking clearly. Call it envy. This ultimately resulted in McCain voting defeating our carefully orchestrated plan to end Obamacare. This was not a pretty picture.

Something like this is going on with Romney.

Pat Buchanan once said, once a person get bitten by the Presidential bug the only cure is rigor mortis.

I never met McCain, but I met one of his cell mates, Sam Johnson. We met soon after he took office after the Republican Revolution of 1994. We shook hands, and I realized this was his deformed hand. It was privilege to met him. I am sorry McCain became embittered.

For what it’s worth, I recommend both McCain’s autobiography Faith of my Fathers, and Johnson’s, Captive Warriors. On the other hand, I do not recommend the McCain’s biopic. The book is so much better.
