Laser Eye Protection questions
Fightin Kentuckian

Posted on 08/06/2020 8:24:50 PM PDT by fightin kentuckian

Once again I'm tapping the collective brain trust of Free Republic to get some answers concerning Laser Eye Protection.

If you're up on current events, and if you're a Freeper, you are. You've seen antifa and blm terrorists blinding people with lasers. I just saw a video of a woman on her front porch surrounded by these terrorists and her face was green. There must have been at least 15 lasers pointed at her eyes. This does worry me and I've been researching laser protective eye protection and can't really seem to find a definitive answer as to what type is effective against these high power green lasers.

Can someone help me out and school me on laser protective eye ware, where to buy it, and which kind is the most effective.

I think there’s an implement made by smith and Wesson.

I wonder how well welder’s goggles would fare? I have a pair with several sets of lenses, ranging from clear to virtually impossible to see through.

It would be an interesting court case. Deadly force against a weapon meant to permanently blind you and damage your eyes.

Assault with lasers causes massive bodily harm.
Protection = GUN

They’re provably commercial 5mW max. lasers. Without testing, I’d say mirrored, polarized sunglasses would be somewhat effective. 12 gauge would help.

You need to be able to see to aim.

To be honest, it depends on what laser is being used. Certain glasses protect differnt wavelength of laser light. Outside of are welder goggles, i do not jnow of a “one size fits all” solution to multiple laser. However i have fount that a shotgun blast to the face of someone shining on you is an effective deterent.

Having worked with lasers, I am sure there are goggles that will work with them. However, trying to blind someone is on the order as stabbing or seriously injuring them. They should be shot. A laser is a purely offensive weapon. There need to be serious discussions about this. As is usually the case the legislation will lag the need.

Look at revision military laser protection.

Different safety glass lenses will have different optical densities at different wavelengths, but you can order general purpose laser safety glasses from Grainger. I’m certain they will protect you from anything a bunch of idiots will be carrying around (the power they can deploy will be limited by their ability to access an adequate power supply, so a portable, battery operated laser is likely going to be very low risk).

There’s lasers pulled out of blu ray players that are slightly more powerful. Can pop black balloons. And there’s YouTube videos about how to do it.

We should train to point shoot.
Often.

Auto dimming welding goggles, and perhaps a laser or very bright flashlight to shine back at the source. Some people attach the laser they are using to a firearm.

I have heard that pit bulls, rottweilers, and other dogs can also be helpful in similar situations.

A flamethrower drone might also be effective, although the legality of using it for defensive purposes it is probably an issue in most situations.

I’m no expert, but unfortunately there is no ‘universal’ laser safety glasses. You have to match the filter to the wavelength (Color) of the laser you are working with. And then the strength of the laser determines the optical density of the coating.

While 5mW is the maximum legal power for general consumers in the US it is very easy and relatively inexpensive to buy a ten watt hand held laser from china... And some of the sellers will be glad to mark it as a 5mW unit, and your average customs inspector doesn’t know the difference, if they even bother to open the package.

And to make it even more dire, an infrared laser, with a 940 to 1200 nM, wavelength you aren’t going to see the beam unless you are viewing through Night Vision device, or a camera without IR cut filter.

I was wondering a couple weeks ago how many high power portable lasers Soros organizations have purchased, imported and distributed.

I just saw a video of a woman on her front porch surrounded by these terrorists and her face was green. There must have been at least 15 lasers pointed at her eyes.

Your fastest protection is to close your eyes and turn your back.

If you see lasers during a protest turn away and avert your eyes.

You can close your eyes and turn your head faster than putting on eye protection.

It’s time to start shooting back. They bring a laser, we bring lead.

What if you made like Perseus and held up a mirror?

That website is an EXTREMIST apologist website full of disinformation. It makes unsupportable claims about lasers not causing permanent eye injuries which is PURE BUNK! It claims that protestors aim lasers at helicopters merely to get attention! That is a FELONY and can result in permanent eye damage. They claim that eye damage only occurs close up and when the laser is looked at for an extended period. MORE BUNK. Green lasers are way more powerful and dangerous than red lasers and I saw BLUE lasers which can actually start things on fire. This WEB SITE takes the side of the rioters.

I was thinking a reflector.
Ever use a laser on a reflector? Pretty dazzling.
A mirror would work, but you’d have to be pretty good at guessing angles.
