You could never make this stuff up. So, here we have a federally-paid-for museum – a part of the Smithsonian museum complex – handing out propaganda that is unambiguously racist by any definition of that word.
And it isn’t just the racism at play here that is so repugnant, it is the effort behind this propaganda to convince Black Americans that they should reject examples of “white culture” like:
– having both a father and a mother at home;
– the value of hard work;
– the value of self-reliance;
– objective and rational thinking;
– children having their own rooms (the horror!);
– cause and effect relationships (huh?);
– independence and autonomy;
– respect for authority;
– planning for the future;
– ownership of private property;
– progress (double huh?)
– time schedules;
– decision-making;
– a justice system based on common law.
These aren’t “white” values that are being rejected here: They are basic human values that are essential for the maintenance of a civilized society. They are values that are necessary for the preservation of human freedom and democratic processes.
More to the point, these are values that, if taught and adhered to can improve any person’s lot in life.
Racist filth like this has no place in any museum in this country, much less one paid for by American taxpayers and sponsored by the national government. This isn’t just propaganda, it is outright hate speech and should be condemned by any thinking American.
That is all.

I was just writing a friend about this.

But, I wonder if there was one from the “blackness” side. If it followed the white version, it would say that most black kids are bastards, and that they liked soul food and fried chicken.
The degree of cliched BS in this single poster—produced by the government 30 years ago—is astounding. If this is what our kids (or specifically—minority children)—were being taught about being white, it is no wonder they hate us.

If blacks refuse to embrace individualism, hard work, objectivity, the nuclear family, progress, respect for authority and delayed gratification, they will remain the underclass as cultures that hold these values continue to pass them by.
It may be true that the dissolution of extended families from the 1950’s onward in order for young families to go where the jobs were has resulted in the 1960’s and the destabilization of society. It is not the case that this was a white thing. By making the claim that it is a white thing the Smithsonian is scapegoating white people for the chaos that ensued. Hindsight is 20/20.

Went to DC last summer and hit most of the museums. The AA museum was reservation only.

and most like fried chicken. like most people in general. i’ve seen the lines at popeyes and kfc. say what you will but if black folks didn’t li,e chicken, popeyes and kfc wouldn’t have the number of restauruants located where they do, and neither would be the other places like chicken and waffles restaurants.

Yes, that particular mixture across a population amounts to “white people things”, though it should probably include self-hatred near the top of the list. Take out the individualism and make a couple of other adjustments, and it turns into Asian people things. Take out the future time orientation and a couple other things, make an adjustment for strong in-group preference and a couple of other tweaks, and it’s black people things. We all overlap a lot, even as groups, but Somalia and Israel are different on account of more than skin color. Detroit has more in common with a Haiti than it does with Salt Lake City.
