All of my computers dual boot, Win10/Linux. I only surf the net using Linux, have been for 15+ years, no antivirus, no antimalware, no firewall on any of my computers. Never had any viruses or attack. Only firewall I have is at my router.

“I’ve been using it for well over 10 years with No Security issues.”

Yup, it’s one piece of freeware for which I’m really appreciative. Though Malwarebytes is the one must have in the items I named.

There are numerous ways into a computer. Leaving your RDP ports open is a long standing MS vulnerability.

Thieves use tools like Shodan.io to find vulnerabilities and exploit them.

I will second using Steve Gibson's ShieldsUp. Going to his site at https://www.grc.com will give you loads of security information.

if you wanna go a little extreme, but not too bad- install a virtual machine program like virtualbox- and onyl go onlien with that- it’s like a sandbox program- which supposedly won’t allow others access to your computer while online- but it’s kind of a pain to do every time- it’ll help protect you agaisnt viruses online too-

“Windows Defender + MalwareBytes Anti-Malware + Sophos Anti-Rootkit is a pretty good combo if you want a free solution.”

The full Malwarebytes is just a trial version with the option to buy. Using it as a free version, after the trial, it won’t catch any malware in real time, you’ll have to scan manually to catch malware after the fact (infection). Paid version catches and stops a host of evils in real time. Worth paying for - if you do, you won’t need the other 2 programs you cited.

Won’t you need a credit card too, just incase unexpected expenses crop up somehow? LOL

Windows Defender. Change your passwords. Quit going to iffy websites. Shut down your home networking so your computers can’t talk to each other and each connects only to the internet. Hardwire to your printer. Use thumb drives to move info between computers.

Like I said: off line.

My computer at home is not connected to the internet or even a network.

I do internet on a tablet that does nothing important.

That might be the most interesting idea thus far.

How do you a) download or b) upload between computers?

Is it cumbersome?

How frequently do you have to do data transfers?

thanks, TW
