5 Civil Rights Americans Lost to the COVID-19 Panic
PJ Media ^ | April 6, 2020 | Megan Fox

Do you remember the bill of rights? There are ten rights promised to Americans within it. Since the Chinese WuFlu pandemic hit, Americans have lost half of them and anyone who has studied human history knows the "temporary" loss of human rights is rarely temporary. Here's a comprehensive list, for those of you keeping track of the recent assaults on civil rights.

1.The First Amendment

The First Amendment is comprised of several rights including the freedom of religion, speech, assembly, press, and petition. We've lost three of those. Churches have been deemed "non-essential" and closed. Christians have been arrested for praying outside an abortion clinic. Pastors have been arrested for holding services in violation of the government's orders. The freedom of religion in this country is suddenly gone.

The right to assemble is also gone. Ordered not to gather in groups of more than ten, the people of America are effectively banned from protesting. This is a scary development. One of our most important rights is the ability to let our government know when they have overstepped their authority, like the massive protests we saw in Virginia a few months ago over their attempt to restrict the Second Amendment. We no longer have the right to amass in public to protest our government.

The right to petition is also scrubbed. This is a right that is largely overlooked but hugely important to the defense of liberties. The right to petition means the right to appear before your local government and hold them accountable for their actions. Because of the pandemic panic, all open meetings are now live-streamed and the public's access to their officials is effectively cut off.

We didn’t lose any rights whatsoever. We temporarily shelved them due to prudence. If you want to see what it is actually like to lose your rights, just join the military. Then go home for holiday anytime you choose.

The takings clauses have been violated on a large scale.

The bottom line is that government needs to be shrunk and shrunk radically in the coming days.

To be honest, the right to petition has been neutered since 1913(ish) when the Court lawlessly rejected the long held valid right to pursue a private prosecution of a public right (I.e.the right to sue the government for doing things it has no delegated power to do) by asserting that, essentially, someone had to prove a harm particular to them for them to have Standing at all.

Yup! I’ve been posting this on many threads...

But you are home and safe.

That’s all that matters...

Retired Army. I gave up MY rights to protect yours. :)

I knew the ‘Constitutional Scholars’ around here would show up right on cue. ;)

I mentioned the same topic to someone the other day. “Well I don’t want to be the one that killed my Grandma from getting her sick!” was the response.
I told them I have the same fear but mine is more realistic like I’m driving down the highway in my larger truck and something unforeseen and catastrophic goes wrong.
A front tire blows out and it causes me to swerve into the other lane and results in a head-on collision that kills not just Grandma but the other 3 members of the family in the much smaller car. Regardless of the necessity to drive in the first place, I want to exercise freedom.
Exercising the basics of freedom has its risks to everyone but also its rewards.
Took less than 250 years for us to rationalize them away...

It did not take long for them to take these right away from us. The statists were eager and ready, because they do not respect our rights or the Constitution. They immediately saw the opportunity they were hoping for, and they seized it.

They enact fascist rules in the bat of an eyelash. They never willingly let go of them.

Over time, more and more rights are seized, and the sum total of rights diminishes, and the march to serfdom steps up its pace.

They hope we don’t notice. I notice.

Why do we need to visit this blog to read the rest of this opinionated rant? Just curious. There are no rules against posting these amateur blogs in full.

I was also in the Army, but not as a career.

I get a bit peeved at people who see all of this as the government stripping them of their rights. Quarantine related measures are used to preserve the health and perhaps the life of others. It appears that it must be enforced since many image that their rights include infecting others with disease just because they have no self discipline.

That being said, I think the level of excitement this time is merely self preservation on the part of political animals. Nobody want to be viewed as "not doing anything".

Here are the rest:

2. Freedom from unreasonable searches and seizures

3. Right to a speedy trial

4. Freedom from excessive bail, cruel and unusual punishments

5. The right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness

The point is though you gave up rights. You were not forced to give them up.

Thank you for the list. But are we surprised by this? Isn’t this the whole purpose of the emergency? Remember Lincoln? Also recall Justice Robert Jackson’s quote about the Constitution not being a suicide pact.

This is stupid.
We haven’t lost anything.
We’ve temporarily accepted a lock down to stop a pandemic from spreading and taking lives.
When the threat is over, we’ll resume exercising our rights.

Your rights stop when you start causing harm to others, and in this very limited situation, certain normal activities cause harm to others.

“shelved them” really. Either you have “rights” or you don’t.
