I'm seeing more and more Amazon Prime trucks on the road these days

Posted on 01/19/2020 3:13:50 PM PST by SamAdams76

There are now over 100 million Amazon Prime members.

Therefore, a lot of trucks are needed to get those good from here to there and from there to here.

I'm seeing more and more of them out on the roadways.

I bought a book from them in 1995 when they were just a small outfit. It was the 1994 edition of PASSPORT TO WORLD BAND RADIO.

...

I remember back then there was a large contingent of FReepers who hated them mainly because the stock was richly valued. I wish I would have bought the stock back then.

They also deliver on Sundays. One dropped off a package today. I believe they are indecent contractors.

Happend to be at home when a gal showed up in her personal car to deliver an amazon package. They pay by the package. She said she makes better than 18 per hour but gets nothing for the use of her vehicle

Usually, my purchases (I have Prime) are delivered by either Prime trucks/vans or occasionally individuals, obviously using their own vehicles. Surprisingly, the last two items I have gotten this past week have been by UPS (the brown trucks!). I don’t recall ever getting Amazon packages via UPS before.

Yep they spent a bit of money, not much in their ballpark.

They will destroy UPS and Fedex, good jobs with vetted drivers. They will open a common carrier section and will suck up all the air in the room.

Replaced by god knows who in your neigborhood.

Congratulations.

I remember that. They said that Amazon would never turn a profit and would eventually collapse like a house of cards.

It is true that Amazon went years without turning a profit.

They took a long term view. Those who bought stock early and stayed with them are wealthy today.

I remember Amazon’s old radio commercials where they would simulate calling a place asking if it was big enough to hold all their books. I used to think they were funny; but it turns out that with their enormous inventory today, they weren’t kidding.

Here in the Atlanta area more of my Amazon purchases are delivered by Prime drivers. I like that the Prime driver will take a picture of the package where he left it at the doorstep and send it to my cell phone.

Can you buy ammo or gun parts through Amazon?

I have never bought anything from Amazon and will try to hold out as long as possible before I do.

Note fellow FReepers use amazon.com/smile.

SAME exact site no difference EXCEPT a small percentage of your order
goes to your chosen charity. Mine goes to my local prolife
Pregnancy center. Why not do the same - name the ACLJ, or the alliance Defending Freedom, or Judicial Watch, or True the Vote, or etc.

Cause amazon is a fairly liberal organization. It is a painless way to help turn the tide. Salvation Army! You get the idea

Bezos owns the Washington Post. I find more of the anti-Trump fake news comes out of the WP than any other source. They are worse than CNN, the NYT, MSNBC, etc.

The Washington Post will make up some nonsense and then it will be reported by every new outlet in the nation .. “The Washington Post is reporting ........... yada, yada, ... Trump bad.”
I do my best not to ever order anything from Amazon. Yeah, I know I am outnumbered 100 million to 1 but I don’t want to give them a dime of my money.

I’ve got Prime and have never been charged for it. I guess their algorithm figures I’m worth it. No fan of Bezos politically but I do appreciate how much time he’s saved me versus running to the store.

She can take tax deductions for vehicle expenses as business expenses. Use of a personal vehicle for business use is a legitimate business expense.

I remember both of those...along with tuning into the 6240 and 7415 bandwidths on weekends to listen to pirate radio stations on my Realistic DX-440.

She can either take the mileage, last I recall it was $0.51 per mile but a log must be kept, or she can depreciate her car for the business usage, either way it offsets a lot of income and reduces her tax bill considerably.
