Estimates are that energy usage typically drops 5-10% on Thanksgiving Day, compared to the November average, all thanks to that delicious turkey. And the estimated savings of that energy could amount to more than $2 billion in energy bills.

“he average Thanksgiving turkey size in 2019 is 30 pounds!”

No way. Nowhere close. I’ve never seen a 30 lb turkey in a grocery store.

Not everyone bakes the bird. Deep fryers and BBQ's. If you are that energy conscious, Spatchcock the bird. Cooks evenly and at 450 for about 90 mins. I've done it that way for 4 years and will never cook it the regular way again.

A couple weeks back I increased my already bloated carbon footprint by cutting a king three trash can turkeys simultaneously and frying three more. Oh the humanity.

How Much Energy Do Americans Use On Thanksgiving

What a ridiculous question. Someone needs to slap some sense into this person. Reminds be of that SNL skit from a couple of decades ago, What if Eleanor Roosevelt could fly?

You could really go places with this information.

350 gigawatts makes a bolt of lightning seem like a nightlight by comparision.

Where we’re going we don’t need roads.

Why aren’t the concern-niks worried about Bitcoin mining farms? They use massive amounts of energy per Bitcoin.

The average Thanksgiving turkey size in 2019 is 30 pounds! That’s one big bird, and more than double from the 13 pound average sold in the 1930s.

I always look for the smallest turkey. This year, we have decided to go out instead of spending the entire day cooking.

This Thanksgiving, Americans will suck up 350 gigawatts of electricity—equivalent to the entire world’s nuclear power capacity in 2012—making turkeys. …
Wow. That’s only 289.2562 times more power than needed to run the flux capacitor for a time-travel jump.

And of course, it’s roasting (or perhaps frying) turkeys, since the bird is already “made” thanks to reproduction.

I'm supposed to believe that someone "who knows" has actually calculated the electrical value of cooking turkey in order to compare it to...... the world's nuclear power capacity --- 6 years ago?

Read that again slowly.

Who ARE these people?!? And who are the dingbats who worship them?

...you might be surprised to know that Americans consume far less energy on Thanksgiving than on just any old Thursday—despite the fact that turkeys take nearly all night in the oven to cook.
Thanks Diana in Wisconsin.

As an American guy the only energy I use is getting to the table to eat, Loosen my belt and try to join in the conversation, then fall asleep in front of the game.
Life is good.

Yes, this is good considering the “freeloaders”. And leftover turkey is the gift that keeps on giving.
