We lived in rural TN and had days-long outages three or four times a year. We finally installed a whole-house generator that switched on three seconds after power went out. That was a big reason the house sold quickly.
We never knew when it would happen which made it worse. I think those in CA are on a schedule so get a heads-up when they’ll lose power. At least they can plan.
