A new, non-vaping, non-smoking way to get nicotine has come to America

Vaping is in crisis. Smoking is taboo. Altria has a solution: Iqos, an electronic cigarette-like gadget that heats, but doesn't burn tobacco.

Philip Morris has been selling Iqos for a while in international markets. Altria will distribute Iqos in the United States for the first time Friday.

The timing couldn't be better for the new nicotine product, as scrutiny grows around smokeless alternatives like e-cigarettes.

Iqos is a futuristic-looking device that looks like an e-cigarette. But don't call it a vape. It heats tobacco sticks at a much lower temperature compared to a cigarette and delivers a "full and more authentic taste," according to its website, without as many toxins. It also requires a charge after several uses.

Iqos has been on sale in 49 countries since 2014, and now its opening its first US location in an Atlanta area mall on Friday. Altria said it plans to expand sales of the "heatsticks" to other retailers like Circle K and Speedways.

I was in Russia for the summer and this is the big thing for smokers over there right now. My wife’s uncle gave up regular cigarettes for this (to resolve a nasty cough) and the results seem very good.

as scrutiny grows around smokeless alternatives like e-cigarettes.

Teens are mixing in deadly narcotics!!!

That’s the only “issue” involving vapes.

A face full of chewing tobacco will cure that nicotine craving. Nasty habit, though.

BS

https://www.pmi.com/smoke-free-products/iqos-our-tobacco-heating-system

“”” While the idea of heating tobacco (instead of burning it) has been around for more than two decades, it took years of research and development to create a product that is satisfying to adult consumers. Around eight million consumers have already chosen to switch from cigarettes to this product: our tobacco heating system IQOS.

At the heart of IQOS are sophisticated electronics that heat specially designed heated tobacco units. IQOS heats the tobacco just enough to release a flavorful nicotine-containing tobacco vapor but without burning the tobacco. “””

That’s vaping. They even say vapor.

Wonder why Juul got so much news attention when there’s hundreds of different vape units out there. Maybe because you can find them in every store. Hey, with Juul out of the way, that would make room on the shelf for the IQOS wouldn’t it?

Studies continue to show the safety of vaping. There is not one verified case of illness related to vaping, but many related to the use of black market THC cartridges.

This is just another attempt to bolster the tobacco market and while safer than traditional cigarettes, still relies on the heating of tobacco to release smoke, with all of the chemicals that entails. The big advantage this provides is continued tax money to allow the states to pay off their tobacco bonds (the money they borrowed in anticipation of cigarette taxes).

Due to vaping, cigarette sales are down and youth smoking is at an all-time low. The states and tobacco companies are just looking for a financial shot in the arm.

Bingo! Didn’t Pelosi slap the CHiP tax on ciggies? It’s “for the children”!

Wow.

Great post.

And yes the tobacco industry is up there with Gotti in terms of morality.

It’s legal to smoke and I won’t tell people how to live, but using LIES to crush vapes is beyond honest competition

I'm loving this one

I use Duke e-liquid in it because the riptide tobacco flavor pods taste like dirt. I live on a dirt road so I know what dirt tastes like. The Duke tobacco flavor is much better and I get a big bottle for $22. I figured out how to get the Riptide pods open and I'm able to fill them a dozen times before the coils burn out. The pods are pretty cheap to begin with @ $4.50 - I've tried every flavor but the cream. Not into any of the fruit or candy flavors. It would be nice to not dump the contents of a brand new pod.

I've got a bottle of 16mg Duke and another 3mg. When the 16mg liquid level went down to about 80%, I topped it off with 3mg. I'm going to keep repeating that and they do make a 0mg but I think when I get down to straight 3mg, I'll just quit.

No more morning hacking or chest tightness. Not out of breath as easy. Took my first puff when I was 14 and was a regular smoker by 16. I'm 54 now and just started with the vape about a month ago.

Are kids doing stupid things with vaping? Yes. Kids do stupid things, like me starting smoking when I was 14-16. Blaming it on one brand name when there's many of them, just seemed suspicious to me. So the MSM is selling out to Phillip Morris now eh?

Studies continue to show the safety of vaping.

Thousands of teenagers (kids) are becoming addicted, growing into adults and unable to shake their vice. That can't be good for society.

Nicotine is an evil beast and you must never ever ever let her into your life

This is not hyperbole and this cannot be overstated

And this is coming from Someone who chewed Copenhagen for 20 years

Smoking of any type is just about the dumbest thing a person can do to their body.

I'd give it a shot. The two e-cigs I used when my doctor first put me on the patch - 21st Century Smokes and MarkTen - have gone the way of the dodo, either through market competition, or regulation, or both. I'm OK with Vuse Solo, but can't find any around here. nJoy really doesn't cut it (and those flat egg-shaped batteries are a real turn-off), Blu's flavor doesn't do it for me, so I'm basically stuck with Juul for the moment, and they're starting to wear a little thin. I've got Circle K's all around me - it's a matter of when they plan on expanding their market. After 30 years of smoking, I'd like to have a device that at least feels like a familiar shape in my hand, not these weirdo devices that look like a saxophone made out of chrome plumbing.
