“NK is sitting on over $10 trillion dollars worth of rare and precious metals.”

Is that the same ones we were supposed to be excited about in Afghanistan?

I met a guy a few weeks ago, a big-wig in charge of exploration with a mining firm. Really interesting, retired now.

He was in Russia shortly after it fell and bidding on areas to explore (and then later to hopefully mine). In all he had made 37 trips, and made numerous multi-million (like $150 million) dollar deals. We spoke at length about business opportunities in Russia.

I mentioned the mob, and he said they didn’t have the resources for mining and oil exploration. “Now Real Estate!? I knew an American that was trying to make it big in Real Estate. Everyone kept warning him - but he wanted to go back home rich. Well, he went back home - but in a box.”

I mentioned “Yeah - it would be nice if/when North Korea falls and we can help their people get at their mineral wealth so they can build a decent country.”

He looked at me and scoffed. “North Korea’s a Dictorship! Like Cuba! It’ll never happen!”

I didn’t get into it with him. But I live in a very liberal area, where even top mining exploration guys can be liberals - so he may have been scoffing at Trump’s attempts at dealing with the Norks.

But - what did he think Russia was before it fell?

And Cuba? Heck - they are already opening up to our tourists (which I’m against). But - perhaps that influence will help to moderate Cuba, and they might open it up to western influences to help them build some decent tourist hotels, etc.

Anyway - I think it is really short-sighted not to consider their mineral wealth and ways that it can be beneficial to all of us.

Although I imagine China and Russia would like to keep us out of the region, and the rare-earth minerals that they have a monopoly on.
