The driving force for the jobs to Huntsville (not just Toyota, but other companies) is Mayor Battle (GOP). The guy reformed the local school system, and brought in outsiders to manage the changes necessary.

Mayor Battle is only carrying on with a vision first developed under Joe Davis and Dallas Fanning. When I first moved to Huntsville in the early 70s, you could find blocks with almost every house for sale. The Apollo and Missile Defense programs had crashed and thousands were laid off. Huntsville leadership decided that while space and defense were great, Huntsville needed to diversify it’s economy and was no longer dependent upon a single source of jobs. What you’re seeing are the latest steps in that process.

BTW, Mayor Battle is doing a fine job.

I’m kind of surprised that SpaceX didn’t consider Huntsville, AL to build its rocket assembly plant. They could have gotten access to a lot of disused rocket test stands to test their rockets.

Fake news. I have it on authority from non other than Senator Patty Murray that Alabamians can’t build anything.

“I have stood on the line in Everett, Washington, where we have thousands of workers who go to work every day to build these planes,” Murray said in a Dec. 7 interview with National Public Radio. “I would challenge anybody to tell me that they’ve stood on a line in Alabama and seen anybody building anything.”

I have to point this out every time a story comes out about Alabama building stuff and it seems I’ve had to do it several times lately.

Hyundai is near Auburn on I-65. Mercedes has a YUGE facility near Tuscaloosa on I-20. Lots of manufacturing going on over there!

Airbus To Build Additional Aircraft In Alabama(1-19-2019)

Mobile, Ala. – The aerospace industry on the U.S. Gulf Coast received a boost Thursday as Airbus said it will fulfill two new aircraft orders at an expanding manufacturing operation in Alabama.

The European aircraft maker said 120 passenger aircraft ordered by JetBlue Airways and the startup airline Moxy will be built in a new factory near the company’s existing plant in Mobile, Alabama.

"Construction on the plant will begin later this month, the company said."

New plant site is almost literally in my backyard... about 2 miles away. N. Alabama is bristling with economic development.
