The other prong of the problem in the US is that there are 3 toxic halides in abundance in our environment that actually mimic and compete with iodine. They are chlorine, flouride and bromine.

Are these in water, dirt, air, other? I live out in nowhere miles from even a town, use well water, and I'm wondering how prevalent these halides are.

In most areas they are extremely prevalent. Bromine is everywhere, including most bread. It’s in carpets, fabrics, upholstery, etc. Flouride and Chlorine are everywhere too.

This is an important fact though: you will not ever be able to avoid these (or any other toxins) but the way you detox is by getting sufficient minerals from food and supplementing. That is what detoxes us.
