Praying and some advice; I had a friend years ago, highly intelligent but kept going back to abuse even though I gave her many books (that she read) on the subject.
What finally got her to quit was a photograph of her bruises she kept in her purse. Whenever she thought about going back to abuse in any form she would look at it.
So any symbol of the abuse would work for your friend as well, something they can keep with them and use to remind themselves what they are getting away from. It's a big struggle and is not dependent on "how smart they are."

My friend did go back for a while, but she did finally quit subjecting herself to abuse. The abuser will not stop trying to hurt her and her daughter. Sometimes wish my parents did not raise me to be moral and Christian because then Id feel free to wreck the jerk. Would feel good. But my parents did, hence the prayer request. Figure God can handle it better than I could.

(If it was not for double standards, the Democrats and the left would have NO standards.)
