Unless I heard him incorrectly, didn’t the president say that the dems have 3 weeks to send him a deal he can sign or he’s going the state of emergency route? I’m sure he prefers to sign a deal with funding for the wall, but I do believe he will go the emergency route if he has to.
They will tie that up in court for at least a year.

declare a national emergency after three weeks and is strongly hinting he will. That will not be a cave, and it will be up to a conservative majority Supreme Court to decide if he acted lawfully.
You need to look beyond the issue of who is winning the day’s news cycle. The Dems win today, but I see no reason why he won’t declare a national emergency- the worst that can happen is the courts stop him, but, if that happens, he can still say he tried.

With the SB out of the way another shutdown even longer and a clear threat of a national emergency declaration. In spite of this being within the President's powers several prog judges on the 9th Circuit or somewhere else will issue an injunction to stop this. Will the President refuse to recognize the injunction as an improper and unconstitutional infringement on executive powers and push ahead. I hope so, but the excrement will hit the fan and parts of the federal bureaucracy including parts of the military departments will either refuse to act or stall by malicious compliance tactics. The dems will certainly use these events as a basis for voting Articles of Impeachment. After that who knows other than it will be a hot summer inside the beltway with huge amounts of media screaming 24/7.
The big question would be if the President will officially ignore the injunction and declare it to be an unconstitutional infringement on his powers as Commander in Chief. The dems would certainly get impeachment articles from the House. The rubber meets the road moment is when the Executive is faced with a refusal by parts of the executive branch and the armed forces to execute his orders or engage in malicious obedience. At that point it is time for the President to start dismissal and calling on allies within the states to execute the Presidential declaration. This is what a sort of civil conflict could look like. DJT needs to get some elocution lessons and prepare the speech or speeches of his life. Read the sort that TR gave i.e. ‘We stand at Armageddon and fight for the Lord’. Because it would be political and constitutional existential crisis in effect political Armageddon.
