Yes, I did use GIMP and like you said, the layers were kinda confusing. So I switched to Pixl, an online free program which I think is a little more user friendly (for a newbie anyway). Might have been Pixl I used to make the Rosenstein meme. Since your suggestion, I will start putting my "layers" in Excel. I played with that a little on Excel yesterday, took me awhile to figure out how to save the final product "as a picture". (Hope I still remember that part).
I have another meme I made with Trump and Hillary, but it also needs a "zinger". Think I'll mail it to you for your suggestions. Thanks for all the great info, I will look up the "how to" videos you mention.

To save the picture, use a screen capture software. MWsnap is what I use. It’s free and I have not found any better.
