If Trump pulls this off, it would be the greatest non-military foreign policy initiative in US history.
“Fat boy” is not our enemy right now
Let’s hope he has a Gorbachev moment. Some time around late 1988 or early 1989, Gorby realized that the USSR made no sense. He decided to preside over its disintegration into fifteen separate republics that could each decide their own destiny, as well as liberating eastern Europe. All but Romania took the easy way out, the Romanian people had to deal with their tyrant and did so.
I was at a very symbolic event in Toronto in 1988. I describe it in my book, Living Waters. Georgi Arbatov, a member of the Politburo, came to Toronto to describe the glories of perestroika and glasnost. Apparently these were that people could say some things now and find a few products in their stores instead of empty shelves.
But it was only a halfway measure, and all the representatives of nations enslaved (for 75 years) by the USSR came to the meeting. They wanted nothing to do with this sham and screamed abuse at Arbatov for the entire span of the “open mike” session. Translators refused to translate but we could tell from the demeanour what was being said ... namely this, who the hell are you to pretend that the Soviet Union is anything but an empty shell and a fraud?
And that is what Trump should ask Kim ... why do you persist in the lie, the deception, the nonsense ... why do you starve your people just to keep some fat little porkers in luxury? Let them go. Let them join the free world, their compatriots in South Korea which has thrived as a free country. Just give it up.
And then perhaps the virus will be contained in China also where the lie is a little better concealed. And then all the Chinese will stop coming to British Columbia when they can afford to get out of the ant colony and we can have our province back.
I’m not sure.
I had thought as you did, before he met with the Chinese and changed his demeanor.
Now I am not sure.
Is Kim, or isn’t he?
