AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) — A federal judge ordered a young woman charged with leaking classified U.S. documents to remain jailed until her trial after prosecutors argued she might possess more stolen government secrets.
Prosecutors also said Thursday that 25-year-old Reality Winner might try to flee the U.S. if released on bond. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer Solari told the judge Winner had written in a notebook: “I want to burn the White House Down … find somewhere in Kurdistan to live. Ha-ha!”
Wearing an orange jumpsuit and leg shackles, Winner pleaded not guilty in U.S. district court to charges that she illegally retained and transmitted national defense information. The federal crime carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison if she’s convicted.....

She will be an old woman when or if she ever gets out of prison unless she decided to end it early. She’s a dim bulb though so she will probably just languish her life away in a federal pen. She’s going to be lonely though. Even criminals are not partial to traitors.

Is that total or per offense?
If she released secrets more than once wouldn’t she be sentenced more than once?
If the charge is upgraded to treason her stay may be about 15 years until she is executed.
It’s a 10-year term for one document. I noted in the references this morning....messages (plural) were used on that thumb-drive deal. So you could do ten years for each single message that they think she downloaded. If she doesn’t produce the thumb-drive or prove what happened to the other messages...the jury will just go and convict her on more charges.
I think she’s easily looking at 30 years now. Pretty sad aspect to be that stupid and throw away the best years of your life.
If I were the judge....I’d add one requirement to the prison sentence...no access to computers or the internet for the first ten years of the sentence. She needs to quiet-time to get this 11-9 frustration out of her head.
The judge said he was worried about what happened to the portable hard drive prosecutors mentioned, as well as references Winner had made in her notebook about the Middle East. He also mentioned her written comment about burning the White House.Comey is more of a threat to "burn the White House" than this leaker is, and he's walking around a free man.
The Secret Service really could use a live test after several years of bungling—she seems like a fit candidate for target practice. :-)
Forget security clearance issues, it seems these government employees and contractors need to have a periodic mental evaluation to see if they’re just plain nuts.
That’s just for the one they have charged her with so far. They have many more charges they can levy against her if they so choose. Maybe they will fall for the cute blond bit but I hope not. This woman, while stupid, is dangerous.
For now, yes, but who knows what the AG's office has going on and I'm sure Loretta Lynch is sweating bullets right about now too. At the very least she should lose her law license for life and be barred from working in public service ever again. She is obviously corrupt. Yes, I know, that's nothing new or remotely interesting when it comes to anyone in the dem party.
Comey screwed up and admitted to a felony in front of the entire nation. Can the AG let that go? Once the investigation has concluded and found to be a nothing burger; that would be the time to round up all the bad actors and charge them. Who knows; maybe even get obummer in on the action too.
Prosecutorial discretion. Sessions and Trump will make a political calculation how to handle that. But I would suggest that at the very least, the FBI should open a criminal investigation, and keep Comey under that cloud.
She should request a sex change, pardon, and lifetime healthcare thru the VA. Its worked before for much worse.
I like it. Put him in the exact position he put Trump in; under investigation.
