I regret to inform our FReeper family that BlackELk passed away from a combination of numerous chronic conditions and a head trauma.
Black Elk passed away Sunday, January 22, 2017. Anniversary of Roe vs. Wade. Working and praying on behalf of the unborn and those who challenged the abortion industry was his life's vocation, as an attorney he represented and won the acquittal of over 700 pro-life rescuers. He wanted to be remembered for that.
He GREATLY appreciated FReepers' prayers last time, and though he was comatose at the end, Mrs. Elk conveyed your prayers and wishes for him verbally. Only he and God know right now the benefit he (and all of us) received from prayers on his behalf.
As a practical Roman Catholic, he would request prayers for his soul by those who are disposed to do so.
As a husband and father, he would like prayers for the souls and well-being of his wife and three grown daughters.
While BlackElk was generally not in great pain, he was in ongoing discomfort. He made it clear that he was ready to go when God was ready for him, but not sooner.
He did have family in the hospital, and received traditional Last Rites (Extreme Unction, Sacrament of the Sick). He was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus and is still wearing his brown scapular. The Funeral Mass is at St. Mary Oratory in Rockford, Illinois on Wednesday at 2PM CST.
When BlackElk was a very young child, he almost drowned and had a near death experience. He heard a voice tell him that it was not yet his time, and that he had a mission that he will not be told until his death. He now knows if he completed his mission.
As a good friend of mine said, "He will make Heaven a more colorful place."
He requested that his tombstone read "Not available." but Mrs. Elk is inclined to assume that he was speaking in jest, so she will not be following through.
BlackElk was only one-quarter Irish, but it is what he always identified with, despite being a near-teetotaler. He shared the Irish attitude of laughing at funerals, to celebrate being with this veil of tears; for him it is time for him to accept God's Justice, but request His Mercy.
May God have Mercy on him and his family, and may he rest in peace.
He is already missed.
God Bless all of you great FReepers!
So sorry to hear this. Sending many prayers to his family & his friends. You painted a wonderful picture of your friend.
Oh man what sorry news, for us still here. Happy for him though to now be able to see his Savior face to face.
I will be sure to pray for him and his family.
May his soul be bound in the bonds of eternity.
God bless him and his family. RIP.
May Black Elk Rest In Peace and our prayers are with his loved ones.
Thanks for the update and stories
Prayers for the family
Condolences to BlackElk’s family and FRiends.
I'm so sorry. I didn't know that Black Elk was ill.
"Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon him.
May the souls of the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God, rest in peace.Amen.
Thank you for posting. Prayers sent for God’s mercy on his soul, and prayers for his wife and daughters. So sad to lose another Freeper and such a good man.
Sad to say I did have a feeling that this time, would be his last.
Yet another strong intellect departs from us.
May he be welcomed by God. I think the chances are good, that he will be.
I am so sorry.
RIP.
Dear Lord God, please bless BlackElks’ Family.
Also, please bless the entire FreeRepublic Family.
I wonder if he has met Marcel Lefebvre yet (in heaven).
We’ll miss your practical brilliance. Rest in peace. Pray for us.
R.I.P. BlackELk.
Prayers for he and his family. He was such an Interesting man and a wealth of historical information! RIP!
A kindred spirit for me all his years at FR: orthodox Catholic, serious prolifer, excellent debater, and having his funeral at the great St. Mary’s Oratory in Rockford.
Eternal rest grant unto Bleack Elk, Oh Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul, and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
